Highlights
  • Montserrat - Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage for people around the world.
Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore on your own. You can visit the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk to Saint Miguel’s cross for an incredible viewpoint, go up the Sant Joan Funicular, take wonderful pictures, buy local products from the farmer’s market, and more.
  • Abadia de Montserrat - The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (La Moreneta) was found around 880. (8.30 am and 1.30 pm tours include tickets to La Moreneta). According to the legends, the monks built the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choirs in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies (you can listen to them on the 9.30 am tour).

Best day trip - Daniel was our guide for this fabulous full day tour of Montserrat with a farmhouse lunch and winery tour and tasting! He was full of personality and made the day fun. But he was not just another pretty face - he was full of history and information. He steered us to the art gallery which was a joy to experience. Take this trip for sure and hope you get Daniel!!!

A day of fun! - Our trip to Montserrat and winery lunch was great. Brian our guide informed us with much history in a very unique and entertaining way. This made it much better than many other tours we have been on that have been more formal. The lunch at the winery was also excellent. We were well tended with good wine and food at a winery eight centuries old. With a good group of Aussies, Americans and Canadians we had a lot of fun. Would highly recommend this trip and that you luck in with Brian as your guide. Thanks also to Johnny our driver who safely piloted us for the day. Thanks, Mark & Anita, Melbourne, Australia

Best Tour Ever - This was the best ever tour i have been on & i have travelled quite a lot around the world. Brian was fabulous, funny, entertaining & very informative. Montserrat & the monastery was a very beautiful place to visit. So picturesque & the walk up to the black cross was well worth it just for the views. The winery & farmhouse lunch with fabulous wines to match the food was superb. If I could give the tour & Brian our guide 100 stars I would. I will definitely be recommending this tour to our friends back in Australia if they ever come to Barcelona & especially ask for Brian to be the guide. Excellent tour and Miro was amazing! - Miro was our guide and was incredible as a guide. The tour started on time and was filled with a breadth of history. I especially loved the apparent passion Miro had about sharing his knowledge and for us to have the opportunity to explore. It rained and he was very agile about making sure we still had a great experience.

Not to be missed!! - The trip was awesome. Daniel was great. Loved the history and passion for Spanish and Catalonian culture. Wine was some of the best I’ve ever had. The food was as fresh as you can find. If I ever come back, I’d do the same trip all over again.

Worth every penny - This was an awesome tour, exceptional in every way. Miro our guide was amazing, sharing history, local knowledge, fun facts and a dose of humor. Montserrat was unbelievable , followed by a fantastic wine tour that included a 4 course meal and more wine than you could possibly drink.
