Highlights
  • Montserrat - Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage for people around the world.
Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore on your own. You can visit the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk to Saint Miguel’s cross for an incredible viewpoint, go up the Sant Joan Funicular, take wonderful pictures, buy local products from the farmer’s market, and more.
  • Abadia de Montserrat - The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (La Moreneta) was found around 880. (8.30 am and 1.30 pm tours include tickets to La Moreneta). According to the legends, the monks built the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choirs in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies (you can listen to them on the 9.30 am tour).

Wonderful tour and great value! - We had a wonderful day! It was unbelievable!! We have been on many tours and this was by far the best. It was amazing value for the money! We toured Mont Serrat monastery, hike to Saint Miguel's cross, went to the museum to see Dali, Picasso, Caravaggio and more! Then had a delicious traditional lunch of tomato/eggplant salad with in house olive oil, jamón ibérico, goat cheese plate, tortilla patata, cod with white bean, ending with a rich chocolate cake and apple cake for dessert!!! All courses were served with a thoughtful wine pairing. That was all wonderful but the real value was having Daniel as our knowledgeable guide!! His command of Catalonian history is fantastic, enabling us to have a fuller understanding of the incredible culture of this great land! Thank you Daniel!!

Great experience - The tour was so well worth it and we absolutely loved Monica! She was very attentive to our needs and gave us great advice on places to eat in Barcelona. 2 of which we tried and they were spot on. We arrived early to the bus station but had difficulty finding the meeting point. After calling we received directions to go straight to the bus which was very easy to find. That seemed to be the only glitch of the day, the rest was just a wonderful trip. We enjoyed all the history/commentary while riding the bus, it gave us a real feel for the culture and we found your guides to be very humorous and entertaining! We had bought tickets online ahead of time to see the Black Madonnna at 12:45. Once again we arrived early, but there was a problem and we weren't able to see her until 1:15. As we were supposed to meet our group at 1:20, I called the office at 1:00 and they were great about getting a message to Monica and getting everything worked out. I will definitely recommend this tour.
