Highlights
  • Basilica de la Sagrada Familia - The construction of the Sagrada Familia started in 1882, under architect Francisco de Paula del Villar. In 1883, when Villar resigned, Antoni GaudĂ took over as chief architect, transforming the project with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. GaudĂ devoted the remainder of his life to the project, and he is buried in the crypt. At the time of his death in 1926, when he was run down by a streetcar, less than a quarter of the project was complete. The Basilica is still unfinished, but construction passed the midpoint in 2010 and it is expected to be finished by 2026 - the centenary of Gaudi’s death.

Join this amazing tour to discover the secrets, obstacles, and stories around this extraordinary church, which is considered the most personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages.

Feel free to visit the Museum of the construction of the temple after the tour.

Once you get inside, it’s glorious - The guide told us to relax and realize the hardest part of the tour is getting in. She was right. Once in the awe you feel makes you forget the crowds. The interesting commentary brought so much to life.

Sagrada La FamĂlia Tour - Overall our guide Monsaret was fairly knowledgeable and passionate. The biggest issue we had was the booking was advertised as a small group, but we didn't expect 30 people and our guide didn't think small group would be 30 people. While the fine print did say it was 30 people, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND that this be made EXTREMELY CLEAR up front in the booking. Also, the booking was billed to last 90 minutes and it lasted about 75 minutes. That all said, I personally had my doubts of paying that much money to see this Basilica after seeing St. Peter's in Rome. It was beautiful and the artwork is very impressive. The detail and storyboard when explained was very deep! Lots of people touring! Go see the museum after the end of the tour and the video presentation.

Seemingly Good Tours, Not Flexible At All - TL;DR - Just make sure you can be on time, because they will not wait and will not offer partial refunds (or rescheduling) - even if your travel circumstances are out of your immediate control. Longer story: This review is not criticism of the tour, but a warning to potential travelers that there is no relief from the company if you run into difficult circumstances. To be clear, we missed the tour because we were late; they are open when booking about NO REFUNDS if you have to cancel within 24 hours, and that is a reasonable policy - but perhaps one that should include a willingness to consider case-by-case. I understand they couldn’t hold up a group on our account and that they had to take the tour without us. However, we hoped there would be a little bit of mercy, given our situation. The circumstances were entirely out of our control, as we arrived in port at the same time as another cruise ship and could not get a taxi for nearly 90 minutes. We did not anticipate such a unique challenge (we gave ourselves 90 minutes to account for a 21-minute cab ride). We had been assured by many parties that this would be sufficient timing. Once things went wrong, we just hoped for a later tour, entry without a guide, or at least a partial refund. The support chat seemingly did their best to help us - but the guide himself was not amenable to our requests. We had a brief phone call where he was distracted (talking to someone in the background as I tried to speak) and terse. For those who choose to take the tour, give yourself at least 3-4 hours lead time to get to the location - even if it’s not particularly far - because the company offers only a 5-minute grace period and nothing else - even if what happens is unavoidable (as in our case). Note that we didn’t ask for a full refund; we were open to ANY help. We first asked for a later tour, then an additional 10 minutes wait (which was rejected - and we understood) and finally a partial refund (which they also refused - even a gesture of 25% or something would have made me give five stars, but they were harsh and unwilling to consider our tough spot). Again, ultimately our fault, but there is no mercy for issues with travel. Businesses gotta make money, but the good ones know that small gestures bring people back. To be fair, we took another tour with them at Park Guell last week that was fun (Gaudi is wonderful, sad we won’t see Sagrada Familia!), but lesson learned with Viator. They got an additional $120 out of us today, but won’t get our continued business. We’ll seek out companies that are a bit more understanding in the future.
