- Scout & Scholar Brewing Co. - The sole brewery in Bardstown, named in honor of William and David Bard. The land now known as Bardstown was granted to David Bard by the governor of Virginia. Originally called Salem, settlement began in the 1770s. In 1780, William Bard, David’s brother, established Bardstown on this site. It became the county seat when Nelson County, Virginia was formed in 1784.
