Highlights
  • Alberobello - Situated roughly an hour from Bari, the bus departs at 09:00am. Upon arrival, a tour guide will greet you and introduce you to the city.
  • I Trulli di Alberobello - World Heritage Site - The trulli of Alberobello in Puglia are renowned globally and have been a UNESCO heritage site since 1996. Their allure stems from a mysterious origin, esoteric symbolism, and remarkably modern eco-sustainable architecture. After a 90-minute guided tour, you’ll have an hour and a half for lunch before heading to Matera.
  • Matera - Located in the Basilicata region, Matera is an hour from Alberobello. The city, known for its Sassi, is also called the eternal city, the Jerusalem of the West, and was the European Capital of Culture in 2019. A guided tour will be provided.
  • Sassi di Matera - This site in southern Basilicata comprises the ancient city of Matera and the Park of the Rock Churches, which are set in the natural cavities of the Murge. Spanning 1,016 hectares, this remarkable troglodyte settlement remains intact and includes over a thousand homes and numerous commercial activities and shops. Great day trip for all audiences - A really fantastic day trip - our tour guide Francesco was very knowledgeable and made the trip entertaining and informative. I felt we had just the right amount of time in both Matera and Alberobello: we saw all of the key sights and were even treated to a cup of rather delicious fruity wine in one of the Trulli houses. We were all very grateful for the air con on the bus! Will be recommending to my friends.

Fantastic Unesco tour and guide ! - Everything went beyond expectations! Guide and driver very professional! Our guide Francesco was one of a kind! He knew the history of each place , he went though every detail to make us understand how the life in Matera and Alberobello was back then. We visited spots that we would not imagine and trust me.. You will be fully and greatly surprised!! And wait also for many surprises - remember the name Angelo!! Do not miss the UNESCO tour!! Francesco, ancora grazie di cuore! Alla prossima!! Irene

Visit Matera and Alberobello separately - Both Matera and Alberobello deserve to be visited, but not in one day if you really want to enjoy all they have to offer. Visitors to Matera are to be informed beforehand by the guide about the many (some potentially dangerous) steps that will be taken, and offered the liberty to visit on their own. We had a very knowledgeable guide, but he was not aware that some of us might not have been able to take all those steps due to health issues, and in the high temperature of the day and the fast pace he used, our enthusiasm was dampened because we were not informed beforehand about the hundreds of steps down and up and down again and back up.

Easy option but challenging - It was a very long day, close to 10 hours in a very hot day. Our guide was very informative but maybe a briefing on the bus to the first location rather than on a balcony in searing heat might have been better. Probably could have covered Matera by train from Bari. Alberobello was very pleasant but we lost a guest for what seemed ages, the return bus was late in picking us up and then had a minor crash on the way home.

Very interesting places but don’t go on this tours - The Matera leg was very disappointing due to the time spent standing in the hot sun while the tour guide tried to work out how to use the radio equipment. While she seemed a very nice person she was very hard to understand. She also spent too much time almost lecturing instead of just pointing out points of interest. The guide at Alberoberro was fabulous
