A nice way yo kill a couple of hours - I really enjoyed the tour, mainly due to the people attending it. It seems that most people taking this tour are locals and there was a big group of them celebrating their grandfather’s 70th birthday on the boat. They invited me to join their party, dance with them and shared their food with me - I even got a piece of the birthday cake! So this was more of a party boat ride than a sightseeing one - we did the whole trip as described in the app, but almost no explanations were given. For me it was the people who made this trip memorable, not the tour itself - but it’s good if you have a couple of hours to kill in Barranquilla nevertheless. Apparently the area around the dock is not very safe after dark, so it’s best to call an Uber.

Party boat tour of the Magdalena - Pros: a complete view of the great Magdalena River. Great opportunity for pictures. Cons: no actual tour or educational information given. This is a party-style boat. Loud music, beer… I would suggest doing some reading on the Magdalena; its history, importance, ecosystems, fauna, fish, indigenous people etc. Caviat: arrange hotel pick up. The neighborhood where the boat dock is located is not so safe at night. That statement came from a local! If you’re traveling during the raining season, bring a raincoat for this tour.

Make sure the tour is actually happening! - We signed up for the tour through Trip Advisor and when we arrived, nobody was there and there was no tour happening! There is no signage at the entrance and minimal arrival instruction online but luckily, a guy behind the closed gate called someone for us who told us that there was no tour available. At least they were proactive about submitting a request to credit us.

Horrible! - In the ticket you write it starts at 4pm. So we were the 03:50. After waiting 1,5 hours, we left the Dock at 5:20pm. Onboard was a DJ who played music so loud, that our ears was bleeding, for the entire Cruise. Absolutely horrible.

Just a party boat - We booked the tour through Trip Advisor, but it does not seem that it communicates with the actual staff of the tour. Had it not been because I looked for their WhatsApp to ask some further questions, I would not have known how to arrive, that I have to go through a blue door and ask for the boat. I also had to show proof of purchase through Trip Advisor. We were told to be there by 4pm, but there was no information that this was just the time of embarkment and that departure time was actually 5pm. We were on the boat for an entire hour wondering what time we were going to leave. When this was communicated, the boat still left about 15mins late because people were still arriving. I guess this information WAS communicated to other guests? Or do other guests get to book other hours closer to 5pm? I had also asked previously if the tour offered a bilingual tour guide, they advised for English-Spanish, we would have to book a private tour and it would be much more expensive 150 (unclear if this was COP or dollars, but regardless, it was too much for us). The actual tour, however, does not offer much information. They only pointed to what we were passing by, there could not have been more that 4 sentences total from what we learned that day, and the places were places we already knew. That much money for just being signaled the places we were passing by is definitely not worth the translation, especially when it would be the same names in English. The rest of the time, there was just music playing. After an 1hr, the boat passed the bridge and did a U-turn. Overall, I think we were expecting more of an actual tour rather than a party boat, learning about the history of the Magdalena River, information about the city aside from being pointed at places, etc. If a 2-hr party boat is what you're looking for, this is for you. If you're looking to learn about Barranquilla or the Magdalena River, I would find other tours more worth the money.

scam tour operator - I attempted to book this tour in Barranquilla and entered my payment info. I never got a confirmation email and so assumed it did not book. Apparently it did so I got charged but did not get the tour. I do not recommend this operator. Magdalena River Tour by Magdatours
