Fabulous private Chocalate, cheese and pastry tour. - This private rail/walking tour gave a very good overview of the city. With several stops along the way to enjoy some fabulous Cheese, Chocalate and Pastries. Jonas attention to detail was outstanding and his knowledge of the city and his passion for Chocalate making really made this tour wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic Experience - We booked this tour as a "get outside the day after arrival to fight jet lag" experience. We chose the tour because it was chocolate and cheese in Switzerland - what could be more apropos? Our guide, Jonas, picked us up punctually at our hotel and we walked to the nearby tram stop. He gave us a summary of the tram system and informed us that our Basel Card included Tram service, which is an outrageously brilliant idea on the part of the local tourist board. We took the tram to the Marktplatz, which was sparsely populated on a Wednesday, and began our walking tour. Our first stop was Gilgen, an iconic bakery housed in a building constructed in 1269. We perused their incredible offerings of chocolates and baked goods before continuing our walk past large street art installations on our way to the cheese and chocolate shop. After a manageable walk filled with a steady stream of information on the history of the city we found ourselves sampling some of the most incredible cheese I've ever sampled. Details were shared pertaining to the production of the various cheeses, restrictions and pacts pertaining to various marketing and branding limitations, and the history and traditions involved with producing cheeses in Switzerland. After the cheese we were presented a selection of chocolates. If you think "chocolate is chocolate" then this experience is going to rattle your cage. I'm generally not a fan of chocolate with high percentages of cacao, but I learned that it's not the percentage that determines the bitterness, it's the process used to produce the chocolate. The amount of information Jonas provided was incredible, and the level of detail displayed not just knowledge, but understanding and passion for the subject. the advantage of the small private tour is that things will be tailored to your preference at a moment's notice, we found the bespoke nature and focus on our individual preferences made this tour a good value. Jonas was an absolute gem, and is someone you could easily converse with for hours.

It is not a typical food... - It is not a typical food tour. It is also a private tour. We were taken to a shop owned by the tour guide. Very knowledgeable about cheeses and chocolate. Tastings of cheeses wonderful. Scant on the chocolate tasting though. Would suggest increase hospitality to offer chairs to sit and water to drink. Then we began our walking tour. Very informative of old part of Basel. Stopped at a bakery and selected a pastry. Probably the best I had tasted during our travels. But again no place to sit and eat our pastry.

To Long to Stand in the Cheese and Chocolate Shop - This tour was given by a very nice young man who took us to a pastry shop then to his store to taste cheeses and chocolate beans. He was very knowledgeable about where the cheeses came from and the flavors of each. A couple came in and spent quite a bit of time buying cheese in the middle of our tour. It was really a long time to stand without any chairs. We bought some cheese. We expected to be trying more chocolate pastries, not just chocolate beans with a couple of bites of chocolate. He did not have chocolate available to buy except one kid which we did not want. I hate to say this because he was so nice but I probably would not do this tour again.

I was disappointed with... - I was disappointed with tour, . Wanted to hear more info on Basel . Disappointed in guides cheese and chocolate shop. Would have loved to buy some chocolate to take home, but it wasn’t a store. He didn’t offer us water during cheese/chicolate tour and there was only one chair to sit down in store. When we went to bakery, had to sit on a window ledge to eat pastry. This tour was not worth the money . He was late for our tour(he did email and let us know) and left us after tour to get back to hotel. Wouldn’t recommend this tour to anyone . Debbie marx

Chocolate cheese pastry tour of Basel. - This is not the typical culinary walking tour, although advertised as such. One pastry purchased per person (there was just two of us) to eat as we walked. No knowledge of what we could choose from. Then walked and took two trams with some history of the city to end up at a small shop owned by the guide with one chair to sit in total, with slivers given of 7 cheeses with explanation of some of how they are made. Then for the chocolate , half hour explanation of where the Cacao comes from with tasting of the nub of four cacao beans and two small squares of actual chocolate bars. This was not what we signed up for based upon the tour description and the pictures and even some of the reviews. Buyer beware.

Tour guide cancelled tour due to limited support. - Our tour guide decided to cancel our tour to help another tour guide who was sick. We were given two options. 1) Take the tour the tour a week later which was unacceptable because we would be in another country or 2) take a different tour which had only little bit in common with the original tour. We were offerred one bakery and more of a history tour. This was unacceptable. We did not understand why our tour was cancelled and not the other way around.

Guide didn’t show up - Had booked this tour as a birthday present for my partner. We showed up well ahead of the meeting time but no guide showed up. After trying to call the guide several times without answering he replied that he couldn’t answer because he was on a tour! We texted him a copy of the tickets of the tour we had booked. He replied that this tour did not exist and was not supposed to start until the week after which was very strange! He called back when his tour ended and we asked him what was going on. He did not have a good answer but told us that something similar had happened twice the same month which is very concerning! When I checked the Viator website afterwards where I booked the tour it was possible to book it a couple of dates prior to the date the guide said it started. Got refunded by Viator immidiately after contacting them. Very disappointed and the whole thing appears highly unprofessional. I can tell by reading other reviews that this is not the first time there have been issues with the tour operator.

Fraudulent - Ignored my efforts to arrange a meet up and then reported me as a “no show” in order to keep the $350. I showed up at published “small group” meet up location on their website. The tour guide was not responsive to phone calls, emails, what’s app and viator texts. Terribly unprofessional and fraudulent behavior. Do not book. Viator has not returned my funds.
