Experience the full spectrum of St Kitts, the Caribbean’s gem, from its natural beauty to its rich cultural, historical, and modern aspects.
In the center of Basseterre, explore the former slave market, surrounded by some of the Caribbean’s best-preserved British and French colonial architecture. Traveling west from Basseterre, you’ll encounter the Cenotaph, a tribute to St Kitts’ soldiers who served in both World Wars. Next, visit the Fort Lands area, once a garrison, now home to elegant restaurants, a boutique hotel, private residences, foreign embassies, and other diplomatic missions.
Continuing westward, you’ll pass the national hospital, the local Coca-Cola bottling plant, a unique egret nesting site, and two offshore universities. Then, visit Bloody Point, the site of St. Kitts’ most infamous massacre. Journey through the pristine rainforest, strolling along the lush river trail as your guide provides an insightful overview of the local flora and fauna.
Afterward, visit the local batik handicraft center. Since 1974, Caribelle Batik’s skilled artisans have crafted unique clothing designs using this ancient art form. Romney Manor is a botanical paradise, with gardens spilling over from the nearby Wingfield rainforest onto its 12-acre estate. Carib petroglyphs can be seen at the Wingfield estate entrance.
Next, drive through Middle Island, home to St Kitts’ first Anglican church and the burial site of English explorer Sir Thomas Warner, before passing Brimstone Hill, the “Gibraltar of the West Indies” and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit Black Rocks, where massive boulders were left by the last volcanic eruption. Enjoy refreshments and capture photos of the area.
As the journey nears its end, travel through Frigate Bay, one of St Kitts’ affluent and newly developed areas. Then, ascend Timothy Hill on the Southeast peninsula for breathtaking views of Nevis, bordered by the Caribbean Sea, and the vibrant Atlantic Ocean on both sides of the peninsula.
Finally, at South Friar’s or Cockleshell Beach, enjoy a variety of beachfront activities such as horseback riding, water sports, jet skiing, and a children’s trampoline. Alternatively, conclude your Kittitian adventure with a rejuvenating holistic massage.
