Incredible experience - We also have a boat cruise as part of the tour, it worth every pennies. The walk was relatively easy, had a late 70s traveling with us, no problem at all. The day was overcast and drizzle a bit unfortunately but that’s part of the nature! There are some picnic tables and seats, bring some food and drinks with you for the walk. Visitor centre’s staff was great. The commentary on the boat was excellent, loved kiwi’s sense of humour :)

One hike not to miss! - Wowzer a not to miss! I have been to many national parks and nature preserves and this has to be up there in the top ten! A beautiful self-guided walk through the geothermal valley, surrounded by hotsprings, very cool vegetation and birds and all at your own pace, we took about three hours, you could do it in less or take the better part of the day. Absolutely stunning views and lots of birds to watch. We also took the boat trip at the end it was great and a better chance to see more geysers. Plus added benefit the Cap'n was great and had spent time piloting in Alaska waters so we had a good chat about that too. The walk is also easy for kids and even better when you are done there are buses that bring you back to the top/carpark so even good for us older folks and people with kids. :)

most beautiful colours eveyrwhere - We visited this place at late afternoon, and i think this was a good idea. No crowds, we met only a few people on the road and it made the place more exotic.

Let your imagination guide you - What a fantastic opportunity. Thank you to the entire WVV team for an awesome experience. The walk was beautiful, native trees and birds abound. Historical sites and a good amount of information available. The colours produced in some areas were unreal. The boat trip around Lake Rotomahana was fabulous and learning all about the eruption was quite remarkable, we were lucky enough to wait for the big geyser to go off twice (it goes every 7 minutes) and to see the lesser seen Angels Wings geyser go off.

A Mesmerizing Journey Through Waimangu Thermal Wonderland - A Mesmerizing Journey Through Waimangu Thermal Wonderland Visiting Waimangu Thermal Wonderland was an enchanting experience that exceeded all my expectations. This geothermal park, located near Rotorua in New Zealand, offers a unique and awe-inspiring glimpse into the Earth's geothermal activity, and it is a must-see for nature enthusiasts and anyone looking to experience something truly extraordinary. Booking and Arrival: The booking process was straightforward and efficient, with plenty of information available on their website about the various trails and tours. Upon arrival, the friendly staff provided us with a detailed map and helpful tips to make the most of our visit. The Trails: Waimangu offers a range of walking trails suitable for different fitness levels, each providing stunning views and access to various geothermal features. I opted for the full walking tour, which took approximately 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace. The paths were well-maintained and clearly marked, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Geothermal Features: The geothermal features at Waimangu are nothing short of spectacular. From the vividly colored pools to the steaming vents and bubbling mud pots, every turn offered something new and fascinating. Highlights included the brilliant blue Inferno Crater Lake, the otherworldly Frying Pan Lake, and the impressive silica terraces. The diverse range of geothermal activity on display is a testament to the dynamic nature of our planet. Scenery and Wildlife: In addition to the geothermal wonders, Waimangu is set in a lush, green valley teeming with native flora and fauna. The combination of vibrant plant life and geothermal activity creates a surreal and picturesque landscape. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of native birds, and the peaceful environment makes it easy to appreciate the natural beauty of the area. Boat Cruise: I highly recommend adding the boat cruise on Lake Rotomahana to your visit. This serene lake tour provides a different perspective of the geothermal features, some of which are only accessible by boat. The knowledgeable guide shared fascinating insights into the history and geology of the region, making the cruise both informative and relaxing. Educational Value: Throughout the park, informative signboards and displays provide interesting facts about the geothermal features and the history of the area, including the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886, which created the Waimangu Volcanic Valley. This educational aspect enhances the overall experience, making it not only visually stunning but intellectually enriching as well. Facilities: The facilities at Waimangu Thermal Wonderland were excellent. The visitor center has a well-stocked gift shop and a cozy café offering a range of refreshments. The restrooms were clean and conveniently located. Value for Money: Considering the unique experience and the well-maintained facilities, the entry fee to Waimangu Thermal Wonderland is very reasonable. The opportunity to witness such a wide array of geothermal phenomena in one place is truly worth every cent. Final Thoughts: Waimangu Thermal Wonderland is a breathtaking destination that offers a rare glimpse into the Earth's geothermal processes. The combination of stunning natural beauty, fascinating geothermal activity, and rich history makes it a must-visit attraction in New Zealand. Whether you're a nature lover, a geology enthusiast, or simply looking for a memorable adventure, Waimangu Thermal Wonderland will not disappoint. Nga mihi Sophie, Chloe and Kara Ripple Rotorua
