Desert Thrills: Conquering the Red Canyon by Jeep and Foot
When the desert calls, you answer. Join me as I embark on a thrilling jeep and hiking adventure through the Red Canyon, where nature’s artistry and the thrill of exploration collide.
Into the Heart of the Desert
The desert has always called to me, a siren song of endless horizons and untamed beauty. So when I heard about the Red Canyon Jeep and Hike experience, I knew it was time to answer that call once more. The journey began with a 20-minute drive along Road 12, a ribbon of asphalt cutting through the arid landscape, leading us to the entrance of the Red Canyon.
The canyon itself was a masterpiece of nature’s artistry, with sandstone walls sculpted by time and elements. Our guide led us through the narrow passages, sharing tales of geology and the resilient flora and fauna that thrive in this harsh environment. The hike was invigorating, a medium challenge that rewarded us with breathtaking views at every turn. The air was crisp, the silence profound, broken only by the crunch of our boots on the sandy path.
Conquering the Peaks
After the hike, it was time to switch gears and climb into the jeep. The old Patrol’s road awaited, a rugged path that would take us to the peaks of Eilat’s mountains. As we ascended, the landscape unfolded beneath us, a tapestry of reds and browns stretching to the horizon. Our guide pointed out the distant Red Mountains on the Jordanian side, their silhouettes stark against the sky.
The jeep ride was a thrill, each bump and jolt a reminder of the raw power of the terrain. We paused at Ein Netafim, the only water source in the area, a small oasis in the vast desert. Here, the guide shared stories of the ancient peoples who once traversed these lands, their paths etched into the earth.
A View Like No Other
Our adventure culminated at the Mount Yoash observation point, 725 meters above sea level. From this vantage, the world seemed to stretch infinitely, the Red Sea glistening in the distance. It was a moment of pure awe, standing at the crossroads of four countries: Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I felt a profound connection to the land. This was more than just a tour; it was a journey into the soul of the desert, a reminder of the beauty and resilience of nature. For those who seek adventure and the thrill of the unknown, the Red Canyon awaits.
