We embark on our journey, heading south from Jerusalem across the Judean Hills. This excursion takes us past the Inn of the Good Samaritan and includes a brief pause at the marker denoting sea level. Our first halt in this journey brings us to Masada, a flat-topped monolith rising 450m from the desert plains. We ascend to the Masada’s summit via cable car, where you can witness captivating vistas of the Dead Sea.
The arid climate and isolated location have impeccably preserved the constructions of the area. Approximately a century later, during the First Jewish–Roman War (66–73 CE), a cohort of Jewish rebels sought sanctuary on Masada. They resisted the Roman forces for several months, until the Romans constructed a ramp made of earth to climb the stony cliffs.
Next, we head towards the Dead Sea, passing Ein Gedi and Qumran, the origin of the Dead Sea Scrolls. If the schedule allows us, we will make a pit stop at the Dead Sea Mineral Cosmetic factory for refreshments. The climax of our journey is a visit to the Dead Sea, where you have the chance to rejuvenate on the beach and take it easy.
