• Longqing Gorge - Longqing Gorge, often referred to as the “north three gorge,” is a renowned water dam located in a suburban village near Beijing. Visiting the gorge is a popular weekend activity for Beijing locals.

Longqing Gorge is celebrated for its picturesque canyon scenery. The canyon was flooded to create a reservoir following the construction of the nearby Longqing Dam. The mountain and river views are reminiscent of other famous Chinese landscapes. It is sometimes called the “Little Three Gorges” for its resemblance to the Yangtze River’s famous Three Gorges, or the “mini Li River” for its narrow peaks and dramatic rock faces similar to those of the Li River in Guilin.

The main attraction for tourists in the scenic area is a 15-minute open-top boat cruise along the bottom of Longqing Gorge. Visitors can also take a cable car to a mountain peak or use a 258-meter (846 ft) yellow dragon-shaped escalator to reach the top of Longqing Dam.

• Guyaju Caves - The Guyaju Caves are the remnants of a cave complex that may have served as homes for a fortified community in a valley near Beijing. The origins of this community are shrouded in mystery, with uncertainty about the founding people and their eventual disappearance.

The settlement might have been established by a tribe from the Liao Dynasty (around 950 AD). However, the history of the caves remains an archaeological enigma, with historical records emphasizing the ongoing mystery of their origins. The dwellings and worship hall are carved into the cliff faces, with cave rooms closely packed together and, in some areas, cut at different levels of the same cliff, giving the appearance of a multistory building.

The complex contains 350 chambers within its 117 caves. At the base of one of the rock faces is the Chieftain’s Palace, a more elaborate residence with 8 rooms supported by columns carved from the rock.
