The Forbidden City served as the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. For nearly 500 years, it was the residence of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political hub of the Chinese government.
The tour route: The Forbidden City is split into two sections. The southern part, known as the Outer Court, was where the emperor wielded his supreme authority over the nation. The northern part, or the Inner Court, was where he resided with his royal family.
