• Temple of Heaven - The Temple of Heaven was constructed concurrently with the Forbidden City. It comprises a series of temples and altars within a park. Twice annually during imperial times, the emperor, accompanied by a grand procession of around 1,000 eunuchs, courtiers, and ministers, would depart from the Forbidden City to the temple. At the winter solstice, he would offer gratitude for the previous harvest, and on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar year, he would implore the gods of the sun and moon, clouds and rain, and thunder and lightning to bless the upcoming harvest.
