Good food! - Anson was our tour guide. He spoke great English and had tons of knowledge about the neighborhoods we were walking in, which was also the location of our hotel. He gave us a variety of food choices, all delicious, but did give us the option to be more adventurous. We opted out of eating anything too exotic. We were so impressed with Anson, we signed up for a tour at the Forbidden City and requested him. He is extremely knowledgable about the history in China and tells it in a way that keeps things interesting.

A taste of real Chinese food - We were met by our guide Linda at our hotel. Linda took us on an amazing tour over more than 3 hours around Beijing. Linda was very pleasant and well educated to provide us with much information about what we ate at each location. TIP - Do not eat too much too early !! There are maybe 8 stops on the tour to sample food. We felt guilty towards the end as we were full and could only try the last few dishes. No pressure to eat the food though. Linda was very friendly and likeable and would recommend her for this tour. Thanks Linda !

Personal experience - Overall, we enjoyed the personable experience and the story telling. We had our tour with Anson. And he made the tour very personable for us. He brought us to places where we would not have gone on our own. My favorite part besides the eating was the little tour of the hutongs. He shared with us the significance of the door ways which made our trip to the forbidden city more relatable. Food wise though, we're from Los Angeles which already have a lot of similar food and this tour gave us a new insights about the cuisine.

Fantastic time! - Becky was a fantastic guide. I’m only sad because we did this on our first night in town and I was so jet lagged that I wish I could have stayed longer and visited even more amazing food stops!

Wonderful Food Tour in Beijing! - We had a wonderful time on our food tour with Jimmy! We started at “donkey burger” which turned out to be thinly chopped donkey meat in a flaky, pastry like roll. Our guide said it tastes like corned beef and he was right, surprisingly tasty! Then the tour continued with hot pot where you could add all the vegetables and meats you want, but save room for the many courses later! We stopped at a little window on the street for a savory pancake at a small window on the street and walked down a hunting neighborhood while eating the warm pancake. Our next stop was a Muslim restaurant where we ordered lamb skewers (very tasty), naan bread, noodle soup, and yogurt. We also ordered the century egg which was dressed in oil and chili pepper. My husband declared it good while I would have probably said okay, but still worth trying just to say you’ve done it! Our last two stops were at a soup dumpling place (so good!) and a little dessert cart where we ordered egg tarts and date cake. What a wonderful night with wonderful food for such a reasonable price! Thanks again Jimmy!

Lovely informative evening with Becky! - The food tour was one of the highlights of our trip to China! It was great to try lots of different things and be challenged to get out of our comfort zone. Becky's English is great and we had some really interesting conversations throughout the night about our different cultures, and the diverse cuisines throughout China. We learnt a lot and there's no better way to learn about a place than to spend time with someone who knows it! Becky was understanding when we didn't want to try the pig intestine but also challenged us to try things like chicken heart and the black noodles, which we are so glad we tried. Our favourite thing by far was the hot pot, it was delicious! It also gave us a great chance to explore the Beijing metro and walk through new parts of the city. The only thing we would change is perhaps we would have liked to have gone to more restaurants and tried smaller samples of food rather than sitting down and ordering full meals each time. It would've been nice to try some of the more modern as well as the traditional stuff, eg bubble tea and other popular desserts. But overall we had a fantastic time. Thank you Becky!!
