• Great Wall at Huangya Pass (Huangyaguan Changcheng) - Travel by private vehicle for about 3 hours to the Huangyaguan Great Wall. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery while your guide provides a history lesson about the Great Wall and the Eastern Qing Tombs. Upon arrival at Huangyaguan Great Wall, you will experience a less crowded and more leisurely hike. You will spend approximately 1.5 hours exploring the Huangyaguan section, which includes 3 km (1.8 miles) of the wall, 20 watchtowers, one pass fort, and one gatehouse.

• Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty - Next, head to the Qing Tombs, stopping at a local village for a delicious Chinese lunch (at your own expense). The Eastern Qing tombs are the largest, most complete, and best-preserved imperial mausoleum complex in China. Visit the Yuling tomb of Emperor Qianlong, the longest-reigning Qing emperor. His tomb, which took over 50 years to build, is particularly magnificent, featuring three chambers with four doors in the shape of the Chinese character “Zhu,” meaning “ruler.” The marble carvings on the walls and ceilings are of high artistic value. The tomb of Empress Dowager Cixi, Dingdongling, is the most advanced of all the Qing Tombs in terms of technical and artistic skill. The carving on the central ramp leading to the main hall depicts a dragon and a phoenix playing with a pearl in the clouds, with the phoenix above the dragon, contrary to the usual pattern. The inner walls of the main and side halls are covered with gold leaf in a design of bats, symbolizing good luck, and the Chinese character for “happiness.”
