Additional Information

This is the go-to hike of the Great Wall surrounding Beijing, showcasing both undeveloped and renovated parts of the Wall at Simatai West and Jinshanling in just 3 hours. The journey to the Wall starts from the Kylin Tower in Simatai West, continuing westward towards Jinshanling. We will descend from the Wall at Shalingkou, Jinshanling, yet if you have the energy, you could hike an extra 30 minutes before descending at Zhuanduokou. The unrefurbished Wall with its watch and beacon towers winds east to west along the mountains. Enjoy the opportunity to make friends with local farmers, sample home-cooked local cuisine, and get an insight into local community life. It’s a photography enthusiast’s paradise along the Wall. As for the level of difficulty, the hike is moderately challenging and suitable for all ages.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Children under 5 are not allowed to take this tour
  • Vegetarian option is available, please advise at time of booking if required
  • There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Simatai West and Jinshanling. Please prepare before hiking and always carry toilet paper by yourself.
  • Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 5-6 pm.
  • You will be followed by local farmers when starting the hike. The farmers will give you help along the way, as a reward they will sell some souvenirs. If you don’t like this, you have to say NO firmly at the beginning (MAYBE LATER does not work in Chinese culture) or just ignore them and not speak a word with them; otherwise they can be persistent and follow you all the way on the Wall.
  • Unlimited bottled waters are stored in our car/van today, and you need a day pack to carry them.
  • We will bring trekking poles in our car/van and please tell your guide if you need one.

Visit to Great Wall - My Son and I had a great day out with David the tour guide. The organisation was seamless and the Wall was spectacular. It exceeded my high expectations. Such a great experience to walk a relatively quiet part of the wall. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Hiking Tour on the Great Wall with Dewit - Recently did a hiking tour on the Great Wall of China with Dewit as our guide, and it was seriously awesome from start to finish. Meeting up was super easy, and Dewit greeted us right on time. The drive to the Great Wall was really comfy, and Dewit was chatting with us about the Wall and Beijing, which was cool. After the hike, we had this huge and delicious lunch that totally hit the spot. The best part of the tour was the hike itself. This quieter part of the Wall where we mostly had it all to ourselves and made the experience completely surreal. The views were incredible, and Dewit shared tons of interesting stories and facts about the Wall. We totally recommend this tour. It was worth every dollar for such a personal and insightful experience on the Great Wall. Huge shoutout to Dewit for being an awesome guide and making our trip even more enjoyable.

Hiking from Simatai West to Jinshanling - Great hike with a small group. Guide was excellent, and our group had a nice time. Lunch at the end of the hike was delicious, and it was nice that we weren't taken into any souvenier shops.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. - This hike incorporates some of the most scenic views of the Great Wall, with fewer tourists, but be prepared for some steep step-climbing. Definitely the highlight of this solo traveller’s trip! From start to finish, Oliver was an excellent, helpful and informative guide. Lunch was lovely.

Amazing experience - This was a truly memorable day. The scenery was fantastic, coupled with the fact that this part of the wall was not beholden by tourists… We saw a few people here and there, but it was largely untouched, meaning we could take it all in in its full beauty. Our tall guide Oliver was very friendly, and made it a great experience. Fantastic day out.

Amazing hike on the wall - We did a lot of research to find the right tour for our family and they were by far the best fit for us. They have many offers in terms of hiking spots/distances, etc... and they are well prepared. Contrary to many other tour guides we talked to, they were ready to take us to a 15km hike from West Jinshanling to Gubeiku. During the planning process, they explained to us the pros/cons of that hike and while they recommended us doing it in a particular direction. They stayed in touch as we were getting closer, including a check on weather forecast and implications. Our guide was very experienced with that hike, and was very knowledgeable and helpful. They had thought of everything, including a wonderful lunch break. We felt that we were in great hands throughout.

A must do! - I had a wonderful day thank to this tour. We were a small group of 5 and it was perfect, our guide Oliver was nice and informative. Thanks to this tour, I was able to really appreciate the great wall in all its magnificence and wonderful natural setting. The hike was the right level of sporty, and we barely met other tourists! To wrap up the tour, we had a tasty lunch together, a nice plus.

A thoroughly enjoyable tour. Totally recommended - We were booked on a small group tour for Jinshanling Sinatai tour. We were surprisingly collected from our hotel in a Lincoln Limousine. There were only the two of us on the tour. We had an excellent guide, Oliver who, on the way to the wall, related a very interesting report on all the different dynasties involved in building the wall and the development of China how it is today. There were hardly and visitors at the wall, so it was more or less a private tour. It too us 3.5 hours, and was fantastic. Oliver was an excellent guide, very polite and respectful. We had a lovely Chinese lunch afterwards and we were returned directly to our hotel by 6 pm. A perfect day. Thank you to Gary, the tour organiser for such a wonderful tour of the Great Wall.

Great Wall hike - less touristy part of the wall - Great hike with our guide David, who picked us up from our hotel and took us to the less crowded segment of the Great Wall. We were able to enjoy the path all for us, as very few tourists were there. The lunch was also very tasty. Highly recommended !!

Amazing trip with an excellent guide - Everything was perfect from the pick-up at our hotel, the hike and the lunch in a family owned restaurant. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about Chinese history. The walk can be quite steep, so bring good hiking shoes. There are not so many people at this part of the wall and the photo opportunities are excellent.
