Highlights
  • Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.

You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.

  • Peace Wall - The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”.

They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.

  • Falls Road - Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists.

The next stop is the Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of the the most famous mural in the world Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of the Irish hunger strike in H Blocks Prison in 1981.

Amazing Experience - Absolutely mind opening. Amazing tour. So full of information. I thought I knew the history of Belfast, but was wrong and learned it all. We didn’t want the tour to end.

Best spent money on any tour ever - Amazingly informative and professional guided tour for 5 individual uncommon friends sharing. In case you don't read long reviews, if ever booking with Cambell's just ask for DAMIEN as your Driver. An encyplediac knowledge of his subject, based on lived experience in the area, throughout the troubles and delivered in a very balanced and unbiased manner. Arrived at Hotel pick up 15 minutes early, and drop off 40 minutes after the 1.5 hour schedule, most unsparing of his time, being fully immersed in answering all our questions at the many stop off points throughout the trip. We were left with a thorough understanding of the troubles, their origins, and implications for families in terms of tragic outcomes on both sides of the divide. But most importantly a great sense of hope that the peace dividend of the past quarter century will grow and deliver for the young generation born post troubles and even more importantly for the next generation. Thank you Damien and Campbell Black Taxi Tours

Learnt so much in 2 hours - Brendan was outstanding in his knowledge of the history of the troubles. Despite being from a Catholic “side” he was extremely balanced in describing the complex history involved. He was also very positive about the future which was encouraging. A great trip with a great guide. Thank you Brendan

Informative and eye opening - thanks Brendan! - We had an amazing and informative political black cab tour by Brendan. His knowledge of the local history was second to none! He actively invited questions and shared the history of both sides in a very sensitive manner. He educated us on modern feelings and issues that were enlightening to hear. Would thoroughly recommend! 5/5!

Highly recommend, don’t miss this - Fascinating, we booked this last minute after talking to another couple we had met. So very glad we heard about this. Henry was our driver he was so informative, funny and engaging. He took us to see the murals, the gate and the wall. And of course the political differences. This tour was beyond our expectations. Highly recommend, one of our highlights of our trip around Ireland hands down.
