Highlights
  • International Mural Wall Divis Street - The Belfast International Mural Wall showcases a remarkable array of murals that illustrate the turbulent history, political ambitions, and cultural heritage of Northern Ireland. You’ll encounter global murals such as those of Palestine, ANC, Cuba, and Republican themes, all hand-painted by local artists. The wall features around 40 different murals that change in response to world events.
  • Falls Road - The Bobby Sands Mural in Belfast stands as a powerful and iconic tribute to Bobby Sands, an IRA volunteer, hunger striker, and MP, who was a significant figure in the history of Irish Republicanism. This mural serves as a poignant symbol of the fight for rights and freedom.
  • Falls Road Library - Stop for a photo outside the Republican remembrance garden and the large H block hunger strike statue.
  • Clonard Monastery - Clonard Monastery played a crucial role in the peace process, serving as a secret meeting place for political leaders before a public framework was established.
  • Shankill Road - On Shankill Road, you’ll learn about 900 years of British rule in Ireland and how the Shankill community fought to remain British. Walk around Shankill to see loyalist murals painted on the walls of houses, and your guide will discuss peace and the future for all our children.
  • Peacewall Taxi Tours - The Belfast Peacewalls stretch over 25 km throughout the city, acting as imposing structures that physically separate communities. They are a powerful reminder of the city’s troubled past and the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation and peace-building. You will have the chance to sign your name or write a quote on these walls, akin to the Berlin Wall.
  • Crumlin Road Gaol - As you walk through Shankill, you’ll see the old Victorian jail that housed both Loyalist and Republican prisoners together for over 30 years during The Troubles. Your guide will provide detailed insights.

Additional Information

Every city has its own shopping and coffee culture, but Belfast stands out with its unique history, having emerged from 30 years of conflict. Your guides are the original drivers who navigated their communities through the bullets and bombs of THE TROUBLES, risking their lives every time they sat in their black cabs.

The North of Ireland is renowned for its murals, which are painted in nearly every area of the country. These images of IRA and UVF murals are often seen on news bulletins or used as backdrops during interviews. They frequently depict the history and political views of both traditions and serve as a way of marking territory. While these wall paintings can appear intimidating, they have become as much of a tourist attraction as many of the regular sights in Belfast and beyond.

Well worth it - Jim provided us excellent insights into the background of the conflict, addressing both sides objectively. He made this experience the most memorable we’ve had in Belfast. Thank you Jim!

Wonderful and memorable! Thank you, Stevie! - What a memorable tour we had with Stevie! He made our trip to Belfast so enjoyable and it was a real pleasure to be with him in his black cab. Stevie was incredibly kind, warm, knowledgeable, accommodating, and generous with his time and information. We were so glad we made the decision to learn more about the history of Belfast and couldn’t have been happier with our time there. By the end of our tour, Stevie felt like an old friend and we will remember this trip for years to come. Ron and I thank Stevie for a wonderful few hours in Belfast!

Thought provoking - This was a really informative tour. You can read about the Troubles and watch news items but the tour gives a new perspective, at times sobering, horrific, and uplifting. Our guide was JR who presented information very clearly and adjusted the way we did the tour to make things easier and accessible to my disabled wife. Definitely a tour worth doing and our guide was excellent.

Highlight of our trip! - We were guided by Joel - he was terrific. I had done this tour once before, with a Catholic guide. Hearing the "other side's" point of view from Joel was so interesting - he was fair and balanced of course, but the perspective was new to us. Gave us real insight into a very complicated situation. It is worth the trip to Belfast just to do this tour.

Informative and somber experience - We had JR as our tour guide who was friendly, dunny and welcoming. He took us around Shankill and the Falls area, sparing no detail in the troubled history. Well worth the money, would advise anyone to go!

Fantastic 5 stars ***** - We took the 2 hour tour, Joel was our guide. Can’t recommend highly enough. Joel was both friendly and extremely informative, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend to anyone, young or old visiting Belfast. We should all know about this history, ‘the troubles’ and how Belfast is trying to find a way forward. Would give this tour 5 stars *****, a must when visiting Belfast.

Amazing Black Cab Tour - Highlight of our weekend stay in Belfast was this tour with Black Cab driver John. Not only was John friendly and funny but his knowledge was immense. Answered all our questions and kept us engaged throughout. Signing of the Peace Wall very moving and incredible to think that people still live in its shadow. Would recommend this tour to anyone. You don’t get to choose your driver but look out for the LFC number plate!

Fascinating, though slightly to one side - Wouldn't have missed this for the world, and just a short drive from the centre of Belfast we felt ourselves in a different world, where history hung over the streets either side of the peace wall like a heavy cloud. Our guide was extremely informative and gave us a sense of what it must have been like to live through the troubles. He took good care of us and was a reassuring presence in streets where the remains of the July bonfire celebrations were still around. It was a sunny day and we were watched by residents on both sides of the wall, sitting outside their houses, as we took photos (allowed) of the military/political murals and memorials to people to the dead on both sides of the recent conflicts. Wonder what they thought of the stream of guided visits? Does any profit from these go back into the communities? Gave a 4 instead of 5, since our guide was obviously, though never overtly in anything he said, from one "side" (not saying which) and emphasised to us that certain streets on one side were probably under illegal military control. One only has to follow the news to know that this is unfortunately true of both sides. This is a comment on how we felt by the end, not a direct criticism. We don't know what experiences this individual or his family might have had in the past. Would recommend this experience, which translates news and impressions gleaned from the media into hard reality. Good luck to those in both communities who are working to maintain peace.
