- Divis - Embark on a personal guided tour of the renowned Belfast murals, painted by former prisoners from both sides of the community. These murals narrate stories of conflict, civil rights, community struggles, prison protests, and more. Your guide, with local expertise, will share these stories using photos and videos from the 1970s onwards, depicting the neighborhoods you’ll visit. Feel the atmosphere as you stand at the very spots where these events occurred over fifty years ago. The first stop is the Welcome Wall at the beginning of the famous Falls Road, the heart of West Belfast, a Republican area. Your guide will showcase the incredible wall art associated with the 854-year-old Republican struggle for Irish freedom. You’ll also see the notorious Divis Tower, once occupied by the British Army as an observation post and sniper’s nest during the Troubles.
- International Mural Wall Divis Street - Explore the largest outdoor gallery of politically charged art in Western Europe. Capture stunning photos of Republican wall art, including the ten hunger strikers who died for their political beliefs in 1981, featuring the revolutionary icon Bobby Sands. Your guide will explain the conflict with the Iron Lady, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. You’ll also see murals related to other global conflicts, including Palestine/Israel, and the recent addition of a mural dedicated to George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. Other murals include Nelson Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and former president. This is also where you’ll capture a photo of the Peace Gates, with your guide explaining their significance.
- Peace Wall - Take photos of the peace lines or peace walls, a series of separation barriers in Northern Ireland that divide predominantly Republican and nationalist Catholic neighborhoods from predominantly loyalist and unionist Protestant neighborhoods. Built in urban interface areas in Belfast, Derry, Portadown, and elsewhere, the peace lines aim to minimize inter-communal violence. They range from a few hundred yards to over three miles (5 km) in length, made of iron, brick, and/or steel, and up to 25 feet (8 meters) high. Some have gates that allow passage during daylight but are closed at night. Most peace walls are in Belfast, but they also exist in Derry, Portadown, and Lurgan.
- Shankill Road - Learn about King Billy, the bonfires, and the House of Orange. See the murals from the loyalist Shankill Road, including Stevie “Top Gun,” and the flags that adorn Shankill, considered the heartland of Ulster Loyalism. Your guide will explain the role loyalists played during the Troubles. You’ll also stop at the Bayardo Bar Memorial and see pictures of the Queen and UVF paramilitaries.
- Peace Wall Belfast - Visit the largest section of the infamous Peace Wall, where US President Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama have signed. Here, you can also write your name and leave a message, as well as take photos to share with friends and followers on social media.
- Clonard Martyrs Memorial Garden - An Irish Republican memorial garden.
- International Mural Wall Divis Street - Features international wall murals, including Bobby Sands, the IRA hunger striker.
- Bobby Sands Mural - Visit the world-famous Falls Road and the Bobby Sands mural at the Sinn Féin office, the political wing of the IRA.
- Garden of Remembrance - Visit the IRA D Company Garden of Remembrance on Falls Road in the heart of Republican West Belfast, which includes the names of IRA volunteers killed in action.
