We ask you to navigate the city streets on either side of the Peace Wall and listen to individuals who were jailed in Northern Ireland for defending their principles. These Republican and Loyalist ex-prisoners will reveal their personal narratives and discuss the impact on their communities, and provide an understanding of the murals that narrate the local history and culture of each region. A must when you visit Belfast - A fascinating experience which was excellent and one I would highly recommend to others who want to hear about the history of these communities and people involved . Our tour guides Gerry and Mark were first class and gave us a wonderful insight into the past and what could lie ahead in the future . Both were happy to answers all questions and got everyone involved in the walk . Great value for money as well ,

Educational troubles tour - Really interesting tour around both the Catholic and Protestant areas of West Belfast, spoken from the perspective of those who fought on opposite sides of the conflict. They both spoke of why the conflict started and what grew from it. Both guides were very knowledable and happy to answer any question you had.

Two sides to The Troubles in Northern Ireland. - Authentic point of view from each side of the conflict by people who fought in the war. I learned a lot and was surprised by what I heard and saw. Highly recommended.

Hear both sides of the conflict as lived by the tour guides. - On our last day we booked a train from Dublin to hear the perspective on 'The Troubles ' over a 3 hour walking tour What an education and fascinating tour. Both guides lived through and participated in the times of IRA, Finn Sein vs. Ulsters. There is a six-gated wall still standing in Belfast to separate the Protestant and the Catholics. Their resentment is palpable. Highly recommend!! We also enjoyed the Hercules pub at lunch and Kelly's at dinner before a comfortable train ride back to Dublin.

The Best of Belfast - Hands down the highlight of my trip. Whilst there is a lot of fanfare for tourist attractions such as the Titanic Museum and the Cathedral Quarter, this tour dives into the issues at the heart of the city. Both Paul, the Republican guide, as well as the ex-British soldier, did an incredible job leading both halves of the tour. They spoke on the divide in Belfast and gave first-hand accounts of the Troubles. I found Paul's story to be particularly fascinating as an ex-prisoner, detailing the events that led to the war as well as knowledge that cannot be easily accessed in the press. Having both sides speak was a unique and invaluable experience that helped me understand the full picture including the current day climate. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone visiting Belfast; this is how you learn history!

Viewpoints of Northern Ireland - We had been greatly looking forward to this tour, taking a day trip from Dublin to participate. The tour was in two parts. The purpose is to delve into the causes and consequences of the sectarianviolenceof Northern Ireland. The first half was led by an ex-IRA, Paul, giving his perspectives on the past 50 years. He shared his story in ways that we could understand. Frankly, I would have given his portion a 5+. The second portion was led by Sean, an ex-British military officer. Unfortunately, he shared his perspectives by repetitive distribution. We had to walk away from the tour before it was done. This was unfortunate, because Sean had some valid points to make, which were obscured by his racur.

Interesting and informative - This was a really informative and interesting tour. Our first guide Gerard was my favourite of the two. He took us round the catholic side of the wall, telling his personal story as well as that of others. It was clear how well liked and known he is in the community as many adults and children waved and greeted him. Our second guide (on the Protestant side) was a lot less positive but still informative and enjoyable. The start of the tour is about a 30 minute walk from the town centre and the tour itself takes 3 hours but is a manageable walking pace with many stops along the way.

A tale of two cities - Our guide for the first part of the tour was Gerrard a former IRA prisoner who at the age of 18 was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for storing arms and bomb making equiprment for the IRA. He was a passionate Republican who told us that he would not rest until the island of Ireland became united and he maintained that his views were shared by the majority of the population. Whilst his version of history was entirely appropriate for this tour what was neither appropriate nor called for was a lengthy lecture about the situation in Gaza and his support of the Pallestinian cause and criticism of Israel. This was completely unnecessary and inapproproprite for a tour dealing with the conflict in Ireland and further it resulted in his share of the tour over running by over 30 minutes and the tour being unballanced. Afrer passing through one of the gates in the so-called Peace Wall which still divides the Catholic Community of the Falls Road from the Protestant Shanklin Road we were handed over to our guide for the second part of the tour. Our guide was a retired sergeant major in the British Army who had suffered three assassination attempts on his life including a bomb placed beneath his car. His delivery was more professional and he stuck to the facts. He presented a very pessimistic view for the future of Northern Ireland informing us that recruitment for the UVF was strong as a result of resentment within the Protestant community of what they perceived to be a "sell out" and failure by the politicians which had left former IRA terrorists in charge and unpunished. Although this walking tour is a harrowing and raw experience it one which is essentail for any visitor to Belfast who wants an insight into the Troubles and the future for Ulster.
