Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist…
- Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.
- Peace Wall - The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”.
They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
- Falls Road - Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists.
The next stop is the Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of the the most famous mural in the world Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of the Irish hunger strike in H Blocks Prison in 1981.

The Best Historical Tour About The Troubles! - Our Black Taxi Tour was AMAZING!!! I didn’t not have any preconceived expectations for this tour, however this tour was the highlight of my trip to Belfast. Rick, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the history but also brought an eye witness account that really brought the tour to life. I highly recommend Rick and this tour.

A 70 year old American gets an important history lesson. - The tour was a mind expanding experience for anyone wanting to learn more about the conflict in Northern Ireland and the multiple actors involved. Our driver shared his personal experience of having his home burned down. The gates to this day that close at night to prevent violence. Stunning. He showed us key areas where persons were killed. The murals around town to honor the fallen - both activists and bystanders - are chilling. He also showed us the church where 10 years of negotiations took place. The photo is from an alter in the building.
This is something to educate us all.

Amazed and grateful to Emmanual & Black Cab Tours - Emmanuel is a skilled story teller because he speaks through his heart. Life Changing perspective: The Raw and Inspiring reality of Belfasts Troubles - I'm not sure what I expected, but to hear real stories about real people in the places they happened, and told with great care and respect for entire community was so impactful to us. So much can be learned by the world from the people of Belfast and Northern Ireland - ok it still has a few clinging on to the past but the future holds such promise......

Well worth doing - Excellent tour with good historic information. Some amazing sights to be seen. Quite remarkable really that division between communities still exists to such an extent so long after the Good Friday agreement. But tour puts it in context.

Highly recommend! Great tour. Very interesting and informative. - I highly recommend this tour. It was extremely informative and interesting. I learned so much about the history as well as the current situation.
Our guide Ricky was personable and knowledgeable having experienced it all himself growing up in the middle of it all. The tour was great but made much more interesting and informative by Ricky giving us some of his personal experiences.

Great tour! Great guide! - Terrific tour - Our guide, Ricky, is incredibly knowledgeable and provided amazing insights into a complex topic. If you want to learn more about the conflict and see the locations firsthand, there’s no better tour than this one. It is a must-do if you are in Belfast!

Unbelievable experience!!! - Saying this tour was brilliant would be an understatement! The driver was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything perfectly. Encouraged us to get out and have a look at everything we went to and I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Northern Ireland.
