• Divis - Once the tallest building in Belfast, it housed a British Army observation post on its roof and was the site of the first two deaths when the Troubles began in August 1969.
• International Mural Wall Divis Street - A stunning collection of murals depicting local events and international conflicts, both past and present.
• Garden of Remembrance - A garden dedicated to local Republicans from the Lower Falls Road area who lost their lives in the conflict. It is one of two gardens we visit and can be controversial as it honors deceased IRA members.
• Falls Road - Home to one of Belfast’s most famous murals, depicting Bobby Sands, who died on hunger strike in the Maze prison in 1981.
• Clonard Monastery - Fr. Alex Reid, the resident priest, played a crucial role in initiating the talks that eventually led to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.
• Clonard Martyrs Memorial Garden - The second Memorial Garden we visit, dedicated to the Republicans of the Clonard area. It is widely regarded as the location where ‘The Troubles’ began in August 1969.
• Belfast Peace Lines - See homes still enclosed by barriers more than two decades after the Peace Agreement was signed. Walk alongside the 12-meter high Peace Wall, which is taller today than when the Good Friday Agreement was signed.
• Irish Republican History Museum - This museum is dedicated to the history of Republican conflict from 1798 to the present day. It features displays of decommissioned weapons, prison art and crafts, newspaper articles, and a research library with audio and visual materials available for viewing. This is where the walking portion of the tour ends, and you can spend as much time as you like here. A brief introduction will be given upon your arrival. The museum operates on donations, so feel free to contribute if you wish, but it is not required.
