Terazije Fountain is a historic landmark in the heart of Belgrade. Built in 1860, the fountain symbolizes the city’s rich history and is surrounded by some of Belgrade’s most iconic buildings, such as the Hotel Moskva and the Palace Albania.
- The National Assembly - The National Assembly is the legislative body of Serbia, where parliamentary sessions and official government functions are held.
The City Assembly of Belgrade, located directly across from the National Assembly of Serbia, is the administrative and legislative body governing the city of Belgrade. Housed in an elegant neoclassical building, it serves as the seat of local government, where decisions regarding urban planning, cultural development, and public services are made.
- Trg Republike - Trg Republike (Republic Square) is one of the most famous and central squares in Belgrade, serving as a major meeting point and cultural hub for both locals and tourists. Dominated by the iconic statue of Prince Mihailo on horseback, the square is surrounded by some of the city’s most important landmarks, including the National Museum and the National Theatre. It’s a lively area, often hosting public events, performances, and exhibitions.
- Skadarlija - Skadarlija is Belgrade’s famous bohemian quarter, known for its charming cobblestone streets, traditional restaurants (known as kafane), and vibrant artistic atmosphere. Often compared to Paris’s Montmartre, this historic neighborhood was once the meeting place for poets, writers, and artists in the early 20th century.
- Knez Mihailova - Knez Mihailova Street is Belgrade’s main pedestrian and shopping street, stretching from Terazije Square to Kalemegdan Fortress. Lined with beautiful 19th-century buildings, it is one of the oldest and most prominent streets in the city.
- Kosančićev Venac - Kosančićev Venac is one of Belgrade’s oldest and most charming neighborhoods, known for its cobblestone streets, historical significance, and beautiful views of the Sava River. Often referred to as the “soul of old Belgrade,” this area is a blend of old architecture, galleries, and cozy cafes. It was once the cultural and intellectual heart of the city, home to Serbia’s first printing press and the National Library (tragically destroyed in World War II). Strolling through Kosančićev Venac, visitors can enjoy the unique atmosphere of a neighborhood rich in history, art, and heritage, as well as its proximity to the Belgrade Fortress and Savamala district.
- Kalemegdan Park and Belgrade Fortress - Belgrade Fortress is one of the most iconic landmarks in Serbia, located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. The fortress has stood for centuries, witnessing the city’s rich and turbulent history. Within its ancient walls, visitors can explore a mix of historical monuments, museums, and green spaces that are part of the surrounding Kalemegdan Park. Highlights include the Victor Monument, offering panoramic views over the rivers, and remnants of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman architecture.
