Additional Information

Not all temples of Maya are alike. Altun Ha, the closest unearthed Maya Temple to Belize City, is a favorite destination for school kids from across Belize. You’ll be greeted by our guides as soon as you reach mainland Belize City, and from there we will drive off to the “Old Northern Road” to explore this magnificent Maya Temple which is located in spacious open grounds. The temples aren’t as tall as those at Lamanai and Xunantunich, making them easily accessible to climb.

After journeying through a former dwelling place of the Mayas, we’ll proceed to the small settlement of Bermudian Landing, to explore The Community Baboon Sanctuary. Established in 1985, the sanctuary’s primary goal was to convince local farmers that preserving the Black Howler Monkey’s habitat could result in the sustainable development of the village. The guide will help you spot these monkeys as they skitter across rope bridges around the village. The call of this miniature monkey, which sounds like it’s emitted by a far larger creature, is not to be missed.
