Inside, you’ll see intricate crystalline formations that line the cave with a majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites that add to the serene richness and grandiose of Xibalba as it’s known.
- Community Baboon Sanctuary - Founded in 1985 the aim of the sanctuary was to show farmers in the area that protecting the habitat of the Black Howler Monkey could bring sustainability to the village. Altun Ha, Cave Tubing & Baboon Sanctuary
In this combined activity, you can choose your departure from Caye Caulker by sea via the San Pedro Belize Express water ferry or by air with Maya Island Air. Upon touching down in Belize City, our tour guides will greet you before setting off for Altun Ha. The temples here are easily scalable and not as towering as those in Lamanai and Xunantunich. Upon reaching the cave tubing outpost, a brief introduction and safety guidelines will be provided. Subsequent to this, a 30-minute hike featuring a few knee-deep water streams is in store. If time permits and you’re game for more excitement, our guides might stop at a mini waterfall and a spot for swimming. The next part of the adventure involves the tour guide introducing you to the monkeys, which you can observe close up as they traverse the village through rope bridges. Be ready for the small monkey’s surprisingly larger-than-life howl.
