Highlights
  • Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve - Also referred to as Cave Branch, this archaeological reserve encompasses a cave network stretching nearly 19 miles within the Cave Branch Valley. Situated to the west at the 37-mile marker on the George Price Highway, visitors must turn left and continue for an additional 6 miles.

The excursion lasts about 3 hours, featuring a 45-minute trek and a tranquil cave tubing experience. Equipped with headlamps, explorers can observe cave-dwelling fish, stalactites, and remarkable ancient Mayan artwork adorning the cave ceilings.

Ranked among Belize’s top 10 attractions, the Caves Branch offers a glimpse into the extraordinary geological formations and provides a moment to reflect on the ancient human activities that took place here.

Geological studies suggest that the formation of these caves spanned several millennia. Archaeologists believe the Mayans used these caves from the middle Pre-Classic to the Post Classic periods, mainly for burial sites and ceremonial purposes.

One of Our Favorite Days - Went thru San Ignacio Shuttle Service. Our driver picked us up promptly and was a delight (Uedder). Sergio did our tour and they arranged for our tubes to be at the entrance so we didn't have to carry on the 1/2 hour informative walk. We swam in the beautiful water at the entrance and Sergio pulled us thru the cave and back to the start. We had a great lunch afterward and Uedder dropped us at the Belize water taxi. We are ages 65-73 and it was a perfect trip!

Very relaxing - Our guide Rudy was very knowledgeable about the caves and the surrounding areas. He also made sure we got back to our hotel in time for our transfer to the water taxi. It was definitely hard not to fall asleep during this tour.

Enjoyable family excursion - Rudy was awesome, very knowledgeable. At least an hour drive from San Ignacio and a 30 min hike to the start of the caves. Recommend water shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, change of clothes & snacks.

Greatly exceeded expectations - This was both an educational and enjoyable experience, thanks to our tour guide Rudy who was able to tell us all about Belize, its history, culture, geography, geology, biology (etc.). We went on a Friday, it was not at all crowded and everyone was friendly and in a good mood. Would love to do it again.

Rudy at Tucan was awesome! - 2 of us did the cave tubing at Nohoch Che'en. Our guide Rudy was the most informative guide I've ever had. He new everything about the nature and history of the entire region and took his time with us at our pace. They work with the Venus Hotel on Burns Ave and I highly recommended this service! Water was perfect temperature (in June) too 😁

Beautiful! - This cave tubing excursion was in a beautiful setting. The company was very professional and responsive. I had several questions and Celine was always quick to respond. Matthew was our driver and Richard was our tour guide. Both were really helpful. We even got recommendations for our trip to San Pedro. I highly recommend booking with this company.

Cave tubing - I had never been cave tubing, but it wasn't what I had imagined. Instead of each of us guiding our own inner tube, we were all clipped together in a group. The guide and "guide in training" were very friendly, but I did not find the main guide, Jessie , to be as knowledgeable as other guides I have encountered on trips in Belize on other tours. Gabriel, the "guide in training" actually seemed more knowledgeable, so I learned to direct my questions to him. The hardhats were smelly and the life vests mildewed, but that is likely hard to control in a humid environment. No one else, not even the guides, had insect repellent for the stretch of hike that had blood thirsty mosquitoes. We were the only prepared out of a group of 6 tourists. We shared ours, of course, but in the future, I think you should give guides some DEET. It was refreshing to be in the water, but honestly, I found the Barton Creek Cave Tour much more interesting.

Crowded. But the guides we had were awesome! - The guides we had were incredible, and knowledgeable. My Dad has some walking and balance issues, and they made sure to help him every step of the way. Our group was small - just our family and one other person, but the entire site was very crowded. And perhaps because of all the rain in the previous few days... it was not the lazy and relaxing float we'd thought it would be.
