As we rolled into Bellingham, the familiar hum of our RV engine was a comforting reminder of the countless miles my husband and I have traveled together. The open road has always been a canvas for our adventures, and this time, it led us to the heart of Bellingham, where the Chuckanut Bay Distillery awaited. Nestled in a historic building, the distillery promised a grain-to-glass experience that piqued my curiosity and tugged at my nostalgic heartstrings.

Arriving a bit early, we were greeted by the warm, inviting atmosphere of the distillery. The staff welcomed us with genuine smiles, and we decided to indulge in a hot toddy while we waited. The drink was a perfect blend of warmth and spice, setting the tone for the evening. As we sipped, I couldn’t help but reflect on the countless roadside diners and small-town cafes we’ve visited over the years, each with its own unique charm and story.

A Culinary Delight at Penny Farthing

After the tour, we made our way to the adjoining Penny Farthing Bar & Restaurant. The name itself was a nod to history, referencing the iconic antique bicycle of the late 18th century. As we entered, the sight of a penny farthing mounted above the bar brought a smile to my face, a whimsical touch that added to the restaurant’s charm.

The menu was thoughtfully curated, and we decided on the Mezze Platter and Filet Sliders. Each bite was a delightful dance of flavors, a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs. As we dined, we enjoyed a view of the stills through a glass wall, a reminder of the craftsmanship we had just witnessed.

Before leaving, we decided to purchase a bottle to take home, a memento of our visit. Although they were out of the Muzzleflash Whiskey, we opted for the Dock Line, a sweet whiskey infused with botanicals. It was a fitting end to a memorable evening, a new addition to our collection of spirits gathered from our travels.

As we drove away from Bellingham, the sun setting on the horizon, I felt a familiar sense of contentment.
