Ian Anderson’s Caves Branch Adventure Co - Your adventure-filled day begins at 9am with departure from the lodge compound and heading into the foothills of the Maya Mountains. From the trail-head, the hike to the summit of the Actun Loch Tunich sink hole is approx. 90 minutes. Prepare for some intense bouts of hiking but once at the Rim, your adventure only gets better.
The 300ft decent into the sink hole is complete with safety helmets, harness and safety line and your expert guides will ensure that you are properly geared and all checks are completed before you decend.
Enjoy lunch at the bottom of the sink hole and then head over to where you will be setting up camp for the night.

Designed to encompass the acclaimed Black Hole Drop, this journey takes you completely out of your regular trails and permits you to set camp at the striking rim stone dam entry of the Actun Loch Tunich river cave system. The camp is pitched inside the entrance and dinner is served. The exploration continues towards the upper crystal chambers which were the sacred venues of the ancient Maya. The following morning, post a robust breakfast, you descend another 400 feet along cave cliff faces on paths of the ancient Maya to the Actun Loch Tunich underground river, extending over 24 kilometers of mapped corridors. Discover in the footsteps of the ancient Maya, past effervescing springs and an subterranean waterfall.
