Magical place! - Undoubtedly, the Belogradchik rocks are one of the unique natural phenomena not only in Bulgaria and Europe, but also on a global scale. The most interesting and significant cultural monument in a historical aspect in Belogradchik is the "Kaleto" fortress. It is one of the best preserved fortresses in the country and a cultural monument of national importance. This ancient fortress was built among impenetrable rocks, when the Bulgarian state was not formed, and the Balkan Peninsula was within the boundaries of the Roman Empire.

Impressive - Pretty impressive. Not all that easy to reach, unless you have car, or book a tour from Vidin, but looks like the photos. I am 69, and while it not entirely easy for me to reach the top level, neither was it too difficult, and the view was worth it.

Grand day on the rocks - A great day-trip! Maria, our guide, took great care of us. On the way to Belogradchik, she talked about the fortress and its history but also about Bulgarian culture, agriculture (glorious fields of sunflowers) and even infrastructure. (Yes. There really needs to be a tunnel.) Along the way, she stopped and got us a nice treat of fresh raspberries from a local person selling by the road. When we arrived at the fortress, there were a number of big tour busses. Maria surmised that they wouldn't be there long, so she showed us another formation and viewing area until the crowd thinned out. Belogradchik Fortress is not only impressive but unique. Red rocky fingers of iron-ladden rock project upwards from the top of a hill where Romans began the fortress. Around that, are the remains from when it was expanded in medieval times. Then finally it is framed by stone walls erected during the Ottoman occupation. The view from the summit was breathtaking. Maria explained the geology that formed the landscape, beginning some 250 million years ago. On the way back, Maria wanted to take us to a little local place for lunch, but, alas, it was closed on Mondays (due to Covid). Instead, we stopped in Montana and found a very charming, very non-touristy place next to a lovely park (where they were rehearsing for a concert -- and that little girl could sing!!). This was a delightful, unexpected treat! In summary, it was a fantastic trip. Maria was professional, knowledgeable and just good fun. I greatly recommend the tour, Maria, Zelanos and Get Your Guide.

The most amazing place in Europe I have ever visited - This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The red rocks are breathtaking and so is the fortress. You should also ask for my tour guide, Mariya. She is very warm-hearted and a wonderful person. I enjoyed this place more than the Eifel Tower, the Colosseum, or the Leaning Tower. It’s the most astonishing place in Europe, in my opinion.

European Visit - This is an amazing attraction that is a must. Wear good footwear because it’s difficult steps in certain areas. The magnitude of the formations are unbelievable and a must to get to the top and see the panoramic view. The truck up may be a challenge but doable with care. An amazing historic place!

Nice view. But: No really guided tour! Disappointing! Guide spoke bad English and she had no knowledge about the spots. - Trip on 17.03.24. I was picked up on time at 8:00 am with a pleasant Spanish group. (4 people) But: If I took a taxi and go by myself it would be the same! This guide is wrong in her profession! Unfortunately no really explanation about the spots, even if you ask for it. You get a paper flyer of Belogradchick fortress from the entrance office and less sentences in broken English about the spots. Apart from this: In Belogradchick you can’t pay by card or EUR only in Lew. (Including the restaurant). Unfortunately the clients will not be informed about this important issue. On the back tour I was asking to stop somewhere, that I can buy somewhere water, because I felt sick. Only after 2 hours she stopped and was annoyed by my request. This attitude is frightening! On the whole: Belogradchick Fortress and Venezia cave are really beautiful sightseeing places, but I recommend to do this trip with another company!
