- Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market - Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace in Bangalore, India, exemplifies Indo-Islamic architecture and served as the summer residence of Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan.
Constructed entirely of teak, the palace features ornate pillars, arches, and balconies. It is believed that Tipu Sultan held his durbar (court) from the eastern and western balconies on the upper floor. The palace walls are adorned with beautiful floral motifs, and it houses a painting of a grand throne envisioned by Tipu Sultan, coated with gold sheets and embellished with precious emerald stones. After Tipu Sultan’s death in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, the British Administration used the palace as its secretariat before relocating to Attara Kacheri in 1868.

Commissioned by Hyder Ali in 1760 and completed by his son Tipu Sultan, the garden features the Lal Bagh Rock, over 3,000 million years old, as a major tourist attraction. This botanical garden, a photographer’s delight, also includes the famous glasshouse, which hosts an annual flower show. The garden is home to various birds, including Mynas, Parakeets, Crows, and Brahminy Kites.

Built by Kempe Gowda I, a vassal of the Vijayanagar Empire and Bangalore’s founder, the fort was transformed into a stone fort by King Hyder Ali in 1761 and further enhanced by his son King Tipu Sultan in the late 18th century. Although damaged during an Anglo-Mysore war in 1791, it remains a fine example of 18th-century military fortification, featuring stone carvings, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, and a large wooden gate at the entrance.
