Sinharaja Forest Reserve - The Sinharaja Rainforest is one of the few remaining virgin forests globally. This evergreen rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a pristine natural wonder. Mysterious and vibrant with life, it is the last extensive stretch of untouched rainforest on the island. Spanning over 11,000 hectares along the southern edge of the hill country, its incredible array of flora and fauna ranks it among the world’s top biodiversity hotspots. Over 130 bird species are found here, including many of the 33 species endemic to Sri Lanka. The forest also boasts a rich reptile population and numerous insect species, many yet to be classified. Mammals seen here include the purple-faced langur monkey and the giant squirrel. Exploring Sinharaja on foot is recommended for a truly authentic jungle experience.
