Delicious fun! - We had a fabulous trip to Albania, and this was one of the top experiences in my opinion. We felt extremely welcome by both Mama Nina and her childhood friend, Miqel, who helped with translation. We had a private cooking class in a beautiful rustic setting within Berat castle. We started off with raki, a local liquor, and some candied quince. Then we got to work using simple, local, and extremely fresh ingredients like onions, garlic, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, ricotta cheese, and fresh oregano. We made qofta (meatballs) from ground veal, eggplant that was incredibly flavorful, and an Albanian dish called ferges, that was super delicious. 😋 The location itself was slightly challenging to find because GPS doesn’t take you exactly to the right place, and some of the locals did not seem to be aware of exactly where to go, but we are so glad we found it and had this amazing experience!

Beautiful , delicious and welcoming - I had the most amazing time with mama Nina and mikael who translated for us. Nina was incredibly welcoming and very cheeky. The food was excellent and easy to follow recipes. Unfortunately you don’t get a recipe card afterwards. Such a fun experience I would recommend to anyone visiting berat.

The best - Nina, Mikel and Nina’s husband were fantastic hosts. We had the best time filled with so much laughter and yummy Albanian food. Their place is lovely and has a great view of Berat. We loved the raki and wine. Definitely a must do in Berat.

Cooking with Love! - We had a wonderful time at Mama Nina’s cooking class in the Castle. Mama Nina was warm and welcoming with Mikel as a friendly translator. We made simple traditional dishes packed with flavor using fresh local ingredients like eggplant, garlic, peppers, oregano, cheese, tomatoes and veal. Such a warm and wonderful experience!

Cookery, culture and care. - Perched in Nina's front room sipping raki, with her extended family, I was a little unsure what to expect; however, the experience that unfolded over the next couple of hours was magical;  educational and something neither me or my husband will forget. An avid foodie, my Birthday gift this year was to do a home cookery class in Berat. As a result, we learnt to prepare and cook fegase, traditional aubergine, and kofte. The instruction, warmth and humour imparted by Nina, with Michael's support for English translation, made the whole experience a joy. Cooking in a outdoor kitchen in a 700 year old castle only added to the uniqueness. I had the opportunity to perfect my knife skills and develop an understanding of both the vegetable and cooking methods, that suparses my prior knowledge (I would have taken the dishes off the heat long before they would have met Nina's approval). The recipies themselves remain the privilege of those who have shared this experience: I encourage anyone with a love of food, people and culture, to be amongst this number.

So much fun, food, wine and laughter - This cookery class was absolutely fantastic. Nina and her family are so warm and welcoming. We immediately felt like we’d known them for ages. Nina’s neighbour, Mickael, was there to help if any extra translation was needed and it was fascinating chatting to him as well. The food was simple and delicious and will be easy to replicate at home. We would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone with an interest in cookery visiting Berat.

Get Your Foodie On! - Chef Mama Nina did an amazing job of creating a fun and interactive experience for our Albanian cooking class. We were a group of 4 total, along with a couple from the UK. We all had a chance to prep and cook several times during the entrees that we made. Chef Mama Nina also had a translator to facilitate. We had more than enough food to eat and left very satisfied. Mama Nina also offered us strong Albanian coffee to end our meal and she even “read” our coffee grounds! This class is definitely a “Must Do” if you’re a foodie in any form. Very Authentic & Highly recommend
