Cozy vibe with friendly locals and delicious Albanian dishes - Nina and her family were extremely welcoming and friendly. She was helpful and full of humour, allowing us to make traditional and authentic Albanian dishes that were tasty. It was very interesting to get to know the culture and interact with locals to immerse into the Albanian culture on a deeper level. Me and my partner were very grateful for this unique experience.

Wonderful experience - This was the most memorable of my time in Albania. First off, we were cooking in a castle called Berat (I think). There’s a small village of people who live there so it was very welcoming. The kitchen was outdoors which was also very nice. The weather was very windy during this time but did not effect our cooking experience. There was a translator present as our main chef did not speak much English but she was very nice & thorough. Coming from a chef, this experience has elevated my palate!! We made some baked egg plants covered with a tomato’s sauce mixture (vegan friendly) - we made pork meatballs with chopped fresh dill & parsley within them: and a delicious dish call forgess (I think)

Best excursion - I took a bus trip (with 2 changes) from Durres to Berat. The best attraction in Berat was Berat castle with the old town, it was the best thing I did in Albania. Care visit. Super nice and cozy town, former capital of Albania.. Good food. Recommends.

Well worth it - A small Ottoman village within the old castle walls including the five star Onufri icon museum. Fabulous views from the lookout point too. Tips: whatever you're told, it's a steep kilometer walk to get there so consider splashing a few dollars on a taxi from the main square. Also the stones underfoot are quite shiny so rubber soles are a must.

Very interesting and great views - It is a very steep climb up the hill to the castle but it is a very interesting place with various bits and pieces to see including the excellent onufri museum and the views from the top and all around the castle area are excellent. Lots of places to buy coffee and soft drinks and fruit and lunch and souvenirs. Lots of photo opportunities. The water cistern was fascinating. Be careful on the walls and some of the paths but there is access to almost all areas.

History and Great Views - Went here with a guide who was knowledgable of the area which was a great help. Some good sites within the castle ruins to see but the views can be spectacular from the top over to the mountains and down to the town.

Very slippery!! - When you are in Berat, you should visit the castle as it is the only castle still inhabited in Albania. It has very old churches and mosques, interesting ruins and great views of the city from above. You can also find tourist souvenir shops and restaurants there. But for most part, it is ruins and quite calm. As others said, going uphill can be very steep and I did not appreciate the shortcut as it is not on a paved way, so it can be slippery. I prefer going through the normal road and taking longer. At the castle area, the white stones are very slippery which made exploring it very uncomfortable so I decided to head down back to the city. You need really good shoes, some people recommended using sandpaper on the soles.
