Day 1: Departure from Bergen in the Morning, Cruising towards Hardangerfjord.
Baroniet Rosendal - This charming manor, built by Ludvig Rosenkrantz and Karen Mowatt in the 1660s, is set amidst stunning historic grounds. The estate features a Renaissance garden, a romantic landscape garden, and a kitchen garden. From Rosendal Garden, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains—Malmangernuten, Melderskin, and Laurdalstind—as well as the Hattebergfossen waterfall and Hardangerfjorden. The garden showcases over 300 years of evolving gardening styles. You can also have lunch at the beautiful garden restaurant on the manor grounds.
Hardangerfjord - Embark on a cruise from Bergen through the Hardanger Fjord. After visiting Rosendal, we will make a brief stop at the Fureberg waterfall in Maurangsfjorden. We will then continue to Jondal, a quaint village where we will stay overnight.
Furebergsfossen - A brief stop at this stunning waterfall.
Jondal Municipality - We will dock here for the night, setting us up for an early start the next day with a drive to the Folgefonna Glacier. Jondal is known as the glacier village and features two cozy hotels.
Excursion to the Folgefonna Glacier with Options for a Private Glacier Hike. Continue Cruising to Norheimsund Afterwards.
Folgefonna National Park - There are several ways to experience the glacier:
- Simply enjoy the view from the mountaintop.
- Join a guided glacier tour (must be booked in advance).
- Opt for a private glacier tour.
- Go skiing on the glacier.
- Have lunch at the Fonna 1199 café located at the glacier.
Transportation will be arranged from the hotel or boat for the 19 km drive up to the glacier.
Norheimsund - After the glacier tour, we will head to Norheimsund to dock for the night and have dinner at the Sandven Hotel.
Norheimsund, Hardanger: Explore Local Attractions Before Continuing the Hardanger Fjord Cruise in the Afternoon.
Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall - Take a walk or drive to this unique waterfall, where you can actually walk behind the cascading water.
Norheimsund - Spend some time in this charming town, mingling with the locals. Enjoy the fjord views, boats, and small shops.
Hardanger Fjord - Cruise from Norheimsund to Eidfjord, taking in the beautiful fjord views from the Flybridge.
We will arrive in Eidfjord in the late afternoon or early evening, just in time for a delightful dinner at one of the local hotels.
Eidfjord Municipality - We will stay overnight in Eidfjord, setting the stage for the next day’s activities, which include visiting Vøringsfossen, the Nature Center, and Hardangervidda.
Fyksesund Bridge - Fyksesund Fjord is a pristine part of the Hardanger Fjord, free from roads, ships, and cars. It’s just us and nature, with beautiful waterfalls and serene silence. It’s a great spot for a swim under the waterfalls.
Eidfjord: Visit Vøringsfossen Waterfall and the Nature Center, Then Drive Back to Bergen (via Voss) in the Late Afternoon.
Norsk Natursenter - Hardanger - This center offers an engaging experience focused on Norwegian nature, climate, and environment. It is an authorized visitor center for Hardangervidda National Park. The new exhibitions make it a state-of-the-art facility for learning about natural and cultural history, offering unique experiences not found at other visitor centers.
Voringfossen - Marvel at Norway’s most famous waterfall, which has a free fall of 145 meters and a total fall of 182 meters. Enjoy the view from the Fossli Hotel and the Vøringfoss cafeteria & souvenir shop. Located next to “Touristroad Hardanger” Rv7, there are several opportunities for photo stops, picnics, and nearby activities. The development project around Vøringsfossen is progressing well, with spectacular new viewpoints expected to be completed by 2020.
Sysendammen - One of Norway’s largest rockfill dams, measuring 1160 meters in length and consisting of 3.6 million cubic meters of stone and moraine.
Måbødalen - This spectacular road ascends from the valleys to the mountains, surrounded by steep cliffs and featuring numerous turns and tunnels.
Eidfjord Municipality - A wonderful village for an overnight stay, offering various attractions.
Hardanger Bridge - The world’s longest suspension bridge, measuring 10 meters longer than the Golden Gate Bridge.
Voss Municipality - Option to stop in Voss city on the way back to Bergen.
