Arrival in Flåm.
- Flam - Enjoy 1 hour of free time in Flåm. Flåm is the most popular village around the Aurlandsfjord and one of Norway’s top tourist destinations. The village has a tourism history dating back over 100 years when wealthy British tourists visited the fjords to fish for salmon in the rivers. Flåm is small, with around 400 residents. However, during the high season, it can host over 10,000 visitors in a day! As you can imagine, it can get quite busy, as Flåm is not only a popular place to stay and visit but also the starting point for many tours and activities in the area.
- Flåmsbana - The Flåmsbanen train (R45Myrdal) departs at 17:30 pm. From Flåm, take the famous Flåm railway to Bergen. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey showcases the finest aspects of Western Norway’s stunning scenery. Over one hour, the train takes you from sea level at the Sognefjord in Flåm to the Myrdal mountain station, situated at 867 meters above sea level. Myrdal is also a station on the Bergen Line, meaning the Flåm Railway connects with trains running between Bergen and Oslo. The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world, with 80% of the journey on a gradient of 5.5%. The train travels through spectacular scenery, alongside the Rallar Road, vertiginous mountainsides, foaming waterfalls, through 20 tunnels, and offers so many viewpoints that, for many, a single trip up and down is not enough.
- Myrdal Station - At Myrdal, change trains, as it is the end stop of the train from Flåm. The next train, called (R40Bergen), departs directly from Myrdal to Bergen at 18:48 pm at Spor 11 (Track 11). At this train station, you can purchase food/snacks, and there are toilet facilities.
