Highlights
  • Trengereid - We’ve now been on the road for just over half an hour, time for a short break. We stop at the viewpoint in Trengereid, from where we have a fantastic view of the East Fjord and the island of Osterøy. There is also a small bakery and public toilets here. We stay here for 15 min, driving time to the next stop is about 15 min

  • Mørkhølsfossen - Discover the enchanting Mørkhølsfossen waterfall, a hidden gem nestled in Tysse, Norway. This small but picturesque waterfall is a delightful stopover on our journey to the Hardangerfjord. Easily accessible from the main road, Mørkhølsfossen offers a tranquil escape with its gentle cascades and serene surroundings.

  • Fossen bratte - Fossen Bratte means steep waterfall and that is a statement: The river Eikedalselva thunders down in a single drop over 79 meters.
We also make a short photo stop at this waterfall and then drive a few hundred meters along the old road to get an impression of what it was like to drive on Norwegian roads in the good old days.

  • Steinsdalsfossen - The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund is spectacular. You can walk along the back of it without getting wet.
Steinsdalsfossen was formed when the river sought a new course in 1699 and has a height of approx. 50 m. A path leads behind the waterfall so that you can get between the rock face and the water without getting wet, it is one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway.
The tourist information and public toilets are located directly at the car park. A short path over an old stone arch bridge then leads you to the waterfall. If you like, you can also stop off at a cosy café located directly behind the bridge and listen to the rushing of the stream.
We stay here a little less than half an hour, the journey time to our next stop in Norheimsund is only about 10 minutes

  • Norheimsund - Discover the picturesque town of Norheimsund, beautiful located on the Hardangerfjord. Enjoy the picturesque views and charming ambience.
In Norheimsund there are several restaurants and also a small shopping center with a bistro.
We stay at this place for about 45 min, enough time for a short lunch break.
The driver will show you where the bus will leave later.

  • Kvanndal - After a drive of about 40 minutes, always along the Hardangerfjord, we reach the ferry in Kvandal. The ferry departs at 2 p.m., the crossing takes only 20 minutes. There are bathrooms and a small kiosk on the ferry. From the upper deck you can make wonderful photos. It is a wonderful experience.

  • Utne - The ferry then docks in Utne. Step into a picturesque wonderland as you arrive in the enchanting village of Utne on the Hardangerfjord. Preserving its old-world charm with well-kept streets and traditional wooden houses, Utne offers a rare glimpse into a bygone era. Gaze upon the spectacular views of the fjord, marvel at the 300-year-old Utne Hotel, and immerse yourself in the peaceful ambiance of this secluded gem.

  • Hardanger Fjord - The route from Utne to Jondal is a scenic drive along the Hardangerfjord on road 550. The distance between the two towns is about 36 km and the drive takes about 35 minutes. Along the way we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and admire the orchards that are characteristic of the region. This trip is highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore Norway’s beautiful nature. We will make photo stops along the way as often as weather and time permit.

  • Jondal - The ferry from Jondal to Tørvikbygd departs at 15:20 on the dot. We cross the main arm of the Hardangerfjord here. There are bathrooms and a self-service café on the ferry. You can also go to the upper car deck and take photos from there. The landscape is stunning. The crossing takes about 20 min.

  • Tørvikbygd - At 15:40 the ferry docks in Tørvikbygd. From here, we make our way directly to Bergen.

Excellent trip with great views and an awesome lunch - Our journey to Hardangerfjord was a wonderful journey. Our driver cum guide Thomas was one of the best I have seen - patient, knowledgeable, humorous and always willing to answer questions. The drive is one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken and I have travelled to more than 30 countries. it is a 'must visit' trip for all tourists in Bergen. The stop for lunch at the Apple Cider farm was really really good – the food was yummy and the views breathtaking.

Excellent Day Trip - This was a great day tour. I would highly recommend it. Thomas, our guide, was very knowledgeable and shared interesting information about the small towns we traveled through and life in Norway. He made several photo stops. Which was great so, we didn't have to worry about taking photos while riding and could just enjoy the view.

Family day trip - This was an excellent tour, Thomas was a great guide and good driver. He took us on an all day journey and made it a fun and pleasant experience. I like that the tour started later than some others, but it is an all day event, close to 11hrs. We learned many things about Norway. I highly recommend as a good way to see the fjord.

A must do from Bergen - We were picked up by Thomas in his comfortable electric limousine at the Tourist Information Centre Thomas was a mine of information and the whole tour was high quality, great camaraderie in the small group. Wonderful waterfalls and glorious scenery.. walk under the waterfall a highlight and a yummy meal at the Cider factory ( price not included but very reasonable). Tunnels, bridges, ferry, fascinating. Not brilliant weather but didn’t dampen the great day!! Highly recommend.. very relaxing and well organized with rest stops etc.

Unique and scenic tour around Fjordland! Highly recommended! - Thomas was a fantastic tour guide! He gave us loads of information about the area and Norwegian culture, and was super down to earth and fun to chat with! I am pretty sensitive to motion sickness in the car and the roads are very winding, but Thomas’ driving was very smooth and I did ok on the drive. The best thing about this tour is its uniqueness. It’s the only tour from Bergen that included a little bit of everything - stops to waterfalls, a choice between a sider farm or norheimsund, various scenic stops along Hardangerfjord, and a stop at the town of Odda for some waffles and coffee! We opted for the sider farm at Spildegarden and it was our favorite part of the trip. The family owned sidery made delicious ciders and their lunch offerings hit the spot. If you’re looking for an intimate and fun tour with a little bit of everything Fjordland has to offer, this is it! Thank you so much, Thomas!

Enchanting Drive - It is truly a relaxed 10 hour trip as the pickup and drop-off are from the hotel, which in rain-frequent Bergen is quite a boon, and little walking involved. The trip circumnavigates the enchanting Hardanger fjord, taking us through jaw-dropping waterfalls, mesmerising scenery and numerous tunnels.. The waffle-coffee break was a bit underwhelming as we were served pancakes and substandard coffee. Thomas, our guide-cum-driver, was very knowledgeable and a great story-teller with interesting anecdotes and fun-facts. The Mercedes van was comfortable though one missed onboard wifi, so essential for a whole day trip nowadays. Highly recommended.

Got to see a lot of the villages and towns along the fjords - Our guide was excellent… Didn’t realize we would be in the van as long as we were thought it was going to be more of a cruise
