Highlights
  • Tvindefossen - Tvindefossen is a waterfall near Voss on the road to Flåm. The many-stranded 110 meters high waterfall is formed by a small stream, the Kroelvi, tumbling over a receding cliff. It is famous for its beauty and many stop here to admire it. In the late 1990s the water at Tvindefossen acquired a reputation for rejuvenation and revival of sexual potency that made it one of the most important natural tourist attractions in western Norway, with as many as 200,000 people a year from the U.S., Japan and Russia visiting and filling containers with the water. At one point it was Norway’s ninth most visited natural attraction, with 272,000 visitors.
  • Stalheimskleiva - The small village of Stalheim lies along the highway in the northeastern part of the Voss municipality. The village sits at a high point in the inner part of the Nærøydal valley which leads northeastwards towards the Nærøyfjorden. The highway runs through a series of tunnels to descend into the valley. The Stalheimsfossen waterfall is the most notable sight in the area and the amazing view from Stalheim hotel is well-known from several paintings.
  • Naeroyfjord - The Nærøyfjord is a narrow fjord in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county and is a branch of the large Sognefjord. The 18-kilometre (11 mi) long fjord is only 250metres (800 ft) wide in some parts. The river Nærøydalselvi flows down the valley Nærøydalen into the fjord at the village of Gudvangen. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it has also been rated by National Graphic Society as the world’s number one natural heritage site.
  • Aurlandsfjord - Aurlandsfjord flows through the municipalities of Auland, Vik and Lærdal. The 29-kilometre (18 mi) long fjord is a branch off of the main Sognefjorden, Norway’s longest fjord. The fjord is deep and narrow, reaching a depth of about 962 metres (3,156 ft) and its width is generally less than 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide. About 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) south of the mouth of the fjord, the Nærøyfjord branches off from it to the west. The village of Flåm sits at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord; other villages along the fjord are Aurlandsvangen and Undredal. Most of the fjord is surrounded by up to 1,800-metre (5,900 ft) tall, steep mountains with little habitation along the fjord except for in a few small valleys.
  • Flåmsbana - Flåm Railway is a 20.2-kilometer (12.6 mi) long railway line between Flåm and Myrdal. A branch line of the Bergen Line, it runs through the valley of Flåmsdalen and connects the mainline with Sognefjorden. The line’s elevation difference is 866 meters (2,841 ft); it has ten stations, twenty tunnels and one bridge. The maximum gradient is 5.5 percent (1:18). Because of its steep gradient and picturesque nature, the Flåm Line is now almost exclusively a tourist service and has become the third-most visited tourist attraction in Norway. Construction of the line started in 1924, with the line opening in 1940. It allowed the district of Sogn access to Bergen and Oslo via the Bergen Line. Electric traction was taken into use in 1944.
  • Kjosfossen Waterfall - Kjosfossen waterfall is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway. Its total fall is around 225 metres (738 ft). There is a small power station on the waterfall which is used to power the Flåm Line railway.
  • Myrdal Station - The Bergen Railway is a 496 kilometres (308 mi) long scenic standard gauge railway line between Bergen and Oslo. It is the highest mainline railway line in Northern Europe, crossing the Hardangervidda plateau at 1,237 metres (4,058 ft) above sea level. The railway opened from Bergen to Voss in 1883 as the narrow Voss gauge line. In 1909 the route was continued over the mountain to Oslo and the whole route converted to standard gauge and the Voss Line became part of the Bergen Line. The line is single track and was electrified in 1954-64. The Flåm Railway remains as the only branch line, after the closure of the Hardanger Line.

Amazing tour of the Fjords - We ended up taking a private tour for our family. Our guide Ivon was amazing. Very knowledgeable even though this is not is his native homeland. Was able to provide a great deal of background on the areas we visited. The van was comfortable, and had plenty of opportunities to stop, view sites, potty breaks, and grab refreshments. We started with a private van in Bergen and after a couple of beautiful sites, we went on a cruise to Flam, then a train ride from Flåm to Voss then back on the van to Bergen. Ivon dropped us off for the cruise and picked us up on the other end. He did the same for the train ride. Views were everything we hoped for.

Highly recommend - Absolutely wonderful trip. An easy no stress way to see the region from Bergen to Flam. Our tour guide Vilde was excellent; informative, funny, mindful and helpful. I had considered doing this trip independently but I am so glad I joined a tour instead. It was relaxing and stunningly beautiful.

Great day! - Our entire family enjoyed the day immensely. We made stops at several waterfalls and enjoyed the small town of Flam. The fjord cruise was stunning! Our guide, Vilda (sp?) was informative, organized, and pleasant to be around the whole day. I recommend getting to the bus early as seats fill up. (You'll get a seat, you might just be in the back row like we were.)

Warm, welcoming and can highly recommend - Karina (guide) and Ky (driver) were wonderful and welcoming. We especially appreciated the small, van-size tour as it made the experience feel personal. The fjords, the Flåm train, the scenery: this is a do-not-miss visit. A special shout-out to Karina and her charm. She never failed to include each tourist in her care. Wishing her luck with her studies: we have no doubt that, with her positive attitude, she will be a great success. Thank you Fjordtours for a magnificent day.

Fjords are a must in Bergen - A great way to explore the fjords without being on a boat for close to 12 hours. The van, train and Flam Railway rides enabled to see the beautiful countryside before embarking on the fjord cruise which was breathtaking. I strongly recommend the tour and this tour group. Our guide kept us on schedule, informative and very friendly.

Too many tourists . . . - This operator did a good job executing the tour plan. The guide was pleasant and friendly, and the tour bus was clean and punctual. Visitors should be aware, however, that the fjords are hugely crowded with tour groups, which diminishes the experience for everyone. Further, the tour boat on which we rode holds 400 passengers, but there is insufficient seats for 400. As a result, many passengers were forced to stand or sit on the floor for the two hour boat ride.
