Simply an experience to try - It is the second time I come to Berlin and the second time I go back. Every experience was unique. When you cross that threshold you feel catapulted into a part of history that we younger people have not lived but our loved ones you

Explains the history of DDR in informative basic terms - The highlight of my six-day Berlin trip, this museum has artefacts, interactive exhibits and information displays which clearly inform in basic terms the full history of the DDR in a fun and educational manner. Whilst the museum isn't big, I spent two hours enjoying the exhibits. I particularly enjoyed the photographs from DDR soldiers illustrating the full extent of the Berlin walls and the 'no mans lands' in between. If you have only a few days in Berlin, a visit to this museum is a must.

Journey into the past - Very nice little museum. Always worth a trip. The best way to get to the nearby car park is by car.

Great interactive museum about life in the GDR - Great for kids. Very informative and good value. Lots of interactive features. Went with kids aged 8 and 11. Was a little busy (10.30) but could still see lots. Kids like the aparment rooms and driving the Traban particularly

Interactive and informative for visitors of all ages - Interactive exhibits that outlined the birth, developments and ultimately downfall of Germany. The narratives that accompanied the exhibits were ultimately fair and struck a balance between the perceived achievements and shortcomings of the regime. Younger visitors will enjoy the interactive nature of the exhibits, while older visitors may leverage the exhibit contents as a launching board for further reading on life in East Germany.

Easy to miss, but worth finding on the Spree River Bank - An interesting and well curated museum, dealing with it's subject material in an interactive way: the use of technology in, for example, the driving of the Trabant around the housing complex is really engaging. It is probably impossible to open all the 'box housed' items in one visit, and the range of material is extensive. A lot of thought has gone into the design of the museum and in summary, there is much in a relatively little space.

Small museum, little interesting but expensive - Basically, I would say that the museum is not worth the expensive admission. The museum is very small and very crowded. Only the Trabbi Simulator for children is really interesting. Otherwise, there are some films and exhibits from the time of the GDR but nothing special. I would have expected much more here, especially with the entrance fee that is charged. All in all, I have to say, I'm disappointed.

Average! - Smaller than expected and not as interactive as we hoped. There’s still a lot of reading for children eg Interactive meant pulling out a drawer to read a label. It was OK but not worth the money in my opinion.

Don't do that! - High entrance fee. Two gruff ticket sellers who seemed to have little fun in their work. Far too much public for a far too small museum. The exhibition seemed to be a loose amount of information in all kinds of forms. There was a lot to read and a lot of doors to open. The so-called apartment from the GDR was not authentic, too cool and not plausibly large for that time. Through the exit you came naturally into the museum shop with a lavish amount of souvenirs. At the exit, the museum (including shop) was more reminiscent of a kind of amusement park attraction than a serious museum from an important period for Germany. A waste of money.
