The palace, which translates to “without concerns” in French, was built between 1745 and 1747 in the Rococo style. It was designed by the architect Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff to fulfil Frederick’s need for a private residence where he could relax away from the pomp and ceremony of the Berlin court. The palace is surrounded by a terraced vineyard, which was a personal project of the king. The palace and its gardens became a World Heritage site in 1990. Our visit to Sanssouci Palace is an external visit only.
