Depart from Cape Town at 8am and head to Knysna, stopping over at Betty’s Bay and Hermanus

Betty’s Bay - As we leave Cape Town at 8am, we travel along the Whale Coast Route until we reach Betty’s Bay, where we can see the African penguins. Betty’s Bay is a small coastal town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is home to a colony of African Penguins, also known as Jackass Penguins, the only penguin species found on the African continent. Betty’s Bay is also known as Stony Point Penguin Colony, which hosts a large population of African Penguins. Visitors can observe the penguins up close as they waddle around, swim in the ocean, and nest in the surrounding vegetation.

Hermanus - From Betty’s Bay, we travel another 30 minutes to Hermanus, the whale-watching capital of the world. Hermanus is a beautiful coastal town where we take a tour. Located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, Hermanus is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, whale watching, and charming small-town atmosphere. It is one of the best places to watch whales from land. From June to December, southern right whales visit the town’s shores, and visitors can observe these majestic creatures from the cliffs and beaches around the town.

Knysna - From Hermanus, we continue to Swellendam, then further to Mossel Bay and Wilderness before finally reaching Knysna, where we spend two nights.

We tour Knysna and Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay - After breakfast, we travel a short 30 minutes from Knysna to Plettenberg Bay. We tour Plettenberg Bay, a modern Garden Route town. Plettenberg Bay is a beautiful coastal town along the Garden Route of South Africa, known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush green forests. The town offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, surfing, and whale watching, making it a popular destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers. Plettenberg Bay is also home to a variety of wildlife, including dolphins, seals, and whales, making it an excellent spot for wildlife enthusiasts. Additionally, the town has a vibrant art scene and a variety of restaurants, bars, and cafes, making it an ideal destination for those looking for a mix of outdoor adventure and cultural experiences.

Robberg Nature Reserve - Still in Plettenberg Bay, we visit the Robberg Nature Reserve for some hiking. Robberg Nature Reserve is a stunning coastal reserve in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. It covers approximately 600 hectares and is renowned for its rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and diverse marine and terrestrial wildlife. The reserve is home to a wide range of animals, including Cape fur seals, dolphins, whales, and various bird species. Robberg Nature Reserve has several well-marked trails that offer breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding landscape. The trails range in difficulty from easy to challenging, so there is something for hikers of all levels. One of the highlights of the reserve is the Robberg Peninsula, a rocky headland that juts out into the ocean and offers spectacular views of the sea and surrounding coastline. Visitors can also explore several archaeological sites in the reserve, which offer fascinating insights into the area’s rich history.

Knysna Heads - From Robberg Nature Reserve, we return to Knysna and head straight to Knysna Heads. Here, there are stunning views of Knysna and excellent photo opportunities. Knysna Heads refers to two large cliffs that guard the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon, a popular tourist destination in the Western Cape province of South Africa. These cliffs are located on either side of a narrow channel that connects the lagoon to the Indian Ocean. The eastern head is a publicly accessible nature reserve that offers scenic viewpoints, hiking trails, and picnic areas. The western head is a private nature reserve that is not open to the public. The area around Knysna Heads is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to a variety of bird species, marine life, and vegetation.

The Waterfront Knysna Quays - We end the day relaxing at the Knysna Quays Waterfront as we watch the sunset. The views of Knysna, crystal blue waters, and the overall scenery are breathtaking. The Waterfront is a relaxed extension of Knysna, offering a scenic view of the harbor with numerous yachts. With a variety of restaurants, from cafes to fine dining, one can easily spend 2-3 hours here. You can also book rides on the lagoon.

Depart from Knysna after breakfast to begin the journey back to Cape Town, stopping over at Benguela Cove Wine Estate

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - We leave Knysna after breakfast and head to Benguela Cove Wine Estate for a 5-star wine tasting experience featuring some of the best wines in South Africa. We sample five different wines. Benguela Cove Wine Estate is a stunning vineyard located in the Walker Bay region of South Africa. The estate is situated on the banks of the Bot River Lagoon and boasts breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and ocean. The vineyard is known for its premium wines, produced using sustainable and environmentally friendly methods. The estate offers a wide range of varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz. In addition to its excellent wines, Benguela Cove also offers a range of activities and experiences for visitors, including vineyard tours and picnics.

Cape Town - From Benguela Cove, we head towards Cape Town, arriving in the late afternoon.
