Highlights
  • Tünel Tramvay - Situated on the northern side of the Golden Horn, Galata is a vibrant social and cultural center rich in history and filled with numerous scenic spots. If you have half a day to spare, embark on this walking tour to explore some of the area’s top attractions! Begin at the lively Tunel Funicular Beyoglu Station, one of the endpoints of the historic Tunel Funicular Line, which is among the world’s oldest underground railways still in operation. From there, we’ll stroll through the Beyoglu Cultural Route, known for its historical significance, cultural diversity, and artistic vibe.

We’ll meander through the bustling streets, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells. We’ll observe vendors selling their goods, locals on their daily routines, and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the area.

  • Galata Tower - Next, we’ll visit the area’s centerpiece, Galata Tower. Recognized as one of Istanbul’s symbols, this historic landmark was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List in 2013. It is believed to be one of the oldest towers in the world, dating back to 500 AD.

  • Kamondo Stairs - After that, we’ll pass by the Camondo Stairs, an art deco-style pedestrian stairway known for its ribbon-like design. We’ll take some photos by the stylish steps before heading to Galata Bridge. This iconic bridge spans the Golden Horn and is a central feature of Galata, appearing in numerous Turkish literary works, poems, plays, novels, and more. We’ll cross the bridge and capture photos of the view before taking the tram to Fener.

  • Fener & Balat - Once there, we’ll explore two of Istanbul’s oldest neighborhoods, Fener and Balat, admiring the colorful streets and historic houses, and getting a glimpse of the local life and atmosphere before heading to the Spice Bazaar, where we’ll wander through the bustling aisles before concluding the tour.

5STAR tour - Ebru was a fantastic tour guide. She is very passionate about Istanbul and shared a lot of great history and information. We got to go on a tram and ferry ride. We also got to taste some authentic Turkish food which we would not have if she did not recommend it. A great, fun day with lots of walking and plenty of sights to see.

Time well spent in Galata and Galata Tower - Hamit was a knowledgeable and pleasant guide. We walked us around the area and he pointed out places and the history/anecdotes with details. He even bought us some pretzel like street food which was very good.
