Bhaktapur was once the ruling seat of the Kathmandu Valley, until its king, Yakshya Malla, divided his kingdom among his three sons in 1482. This weakened the unity and led to the loss of the country to the Shah dynasty from Gorkha.
Before the kingdom fell to the Shah rulers, Bhaktapur was celebrated for its Malla Yuddha, a fierce battle between two wrestlers. As a result, statues of muscular wrestlers can be seen in various temples as protectors of the city and the Gods.
The city is deemed the most immaculate compared to the other two towns, striking a balance between tradition and modernization. Bhaktapur city is one of Nepal’s beautiful UNESCO Heritage Sites.
