Drive from Pokhara (822m) to Galeshwor (1170m) then trek to Bans Kharka (1526m)
Mohare dada - Our guide will pick you up from your hotel with a name card, and you’ll travel from Pokhara to Galeshwor in a private jeep. Your Mohare Danda and Khopra Community Trek begins in Galeshwor. Before starting your trek, you might visit the Galeshwor Lord Shiva Temple, considered one of the 15 holiest pilgrimage sites in the world according to the ancient holy book Srimad Bhagwat Maha Purana. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Kaligandaki River, the main trek starts, leading to Bans Kharka through terraced fields and into the forest.
After a few hours of walking, you’ll reach a beautiful settlement. You can spend the remaining time exploring the hamlet and learning about the Magar community’s culture and lifestyle.
Trek from Bans Kharka (1526m) to Nangi (2300m)
Mohare dada - Today’s route on the Mohare Danda Khopra Ridge Trek will ascend through woodland and terraced farms. After a few hours, you’ll reach the small settlement of Danda Kateri, where you’ll have lunch while enjoying the stunning scenery and views of the Kaligandaki valley. After lunch, you’ll take a leisurely walk to Nangi Village, where you’ll stay overnight in a homestay or community lodge. This communal eco-lodge trip is a perfect example of how community members can work together towards a common goal.
Hikers will be inspired by examples of how people can collaborate for sustainable development by utilizing local resources and strengths. One such example is the community-based Himanchal High School, a model school. You’ll see how locals make handmade paper from locally grown plants (Lokta), visit a medicinal herb nursery, and participate in various other income-generating activities.
Trek from Nangi (2300m) to Mohare Danda (3300m)
Mohare dada - After a delicious breakfast at the Nangi homestay, your trekking route will ascend through a beautiful natural forest, offering amazing views of snow-capped mountains, including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m). Reaching Mohare Danda requires a challenging 6- to 7-hour walk. As you wander through oak and rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and other stunning scenery, you’ll be treated to beautiful landscapes.
From the summit of Mohare Hill, you can see the entire expanse of the Himalayas, including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. You might also see yaks grazing on nearby paths in the Kharka (Pastureland). The main destination for today on the Mohare Danda and Khopra Ridge Community Trek is Mohare Danda, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset over the majestic mountains from your accommodation.
Trek from Mohare Danda (3300m) to Ghorepani (2880m)
Ghorepani - After enjoying breakfast and the beautiful sunrise at Mohare Danda, your Mohare Danda and Khopra Community Trek will head towards Ghorepani. After following the flatland for a while, you’ll descend into the forest, finding a solid route along the upland, eventually reaching Ghorepani. The trail from Mohare to Ghorepani passes through grasslands and rhododendron forests, with sections that are uphill, downhill, and flat.
Throughout your journey, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding forest, the vast southern landscape, and mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets over the towering Himalayas.
Trek from Ghorepani (2880m) to Swanta (2214m)
Trek from Swanta (2214m) to Khopra Danda (3660m)
Khopra Danda Trek - After breakfast in Swanta village, your Mohare Danda with Khopra Danda Trek will take you through a lovely forest, where you might see local children heading to school. After a few hours of steady ascent, you’ll arrive at the Khopra ridge. Keep an eye out for Himalayan tahr and Danfe pheasant, as this area is known for its biodiversity. The best strategy for climbing is to make a steady ascent, taking your time and resting as needed.
Upon reaching Khopra, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Nilgiri. Enjoy the sunset view from this vantage point.
Trek from Khopra Danda (3660m) to Khayer Lake (4660m) then back to Khopra
Trek from Khopra Danda (3660m) to Dobato (2440m)
Khopra Danda Trek - The route from Khopra to Dobato on the Mohare Danda Khopra Ridge Trek is more picturesque, passing through oak and rhododendron forests. However, if you hike in early spring or late autumn, there may be significant snowfall. The journey from Khopra Danda to Dobato is a unique trek that takes you deep into the Annapurna region on an undiscovered trail. The distance from Dobato to Khopra Danda is 10.8 kilometers.
The gentle descent on the trail takes around 5 to 6 hours to complete. Dobato, located at an elevation of 3420m, is the best place to view the sunrise over Mount Dhaulagiri. To reach Dobato, you’ll hike through picturesque communities like Chistibang and Bayeli.
Trek from Dobato (3440m) to Ghandruk (1940m)
Ghandruk - You’ll head towards Ghandruk Village. After several ascents and descents through valleys, deep forests, and numerous communities, you’ll reach Tadapani, where you’ll stop for a quick lunch break. While having lunch, you’ll enjoy stunning views of mountains like Annapurna (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Hiunchuli (6441m). After lunch at Tadapani, the Mohare Danda Khopra Trek Route descends until it reaches Ghandruk, your destination for today.
The village offers breathtaking views of Annapurna, Gangapura, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and many more peaks. After checking in at the guesthouse, you’ll tour the hamlet. If you have spare time, you can visit a small museum showcasing the culture of the Gurung people.
Trek from Ghandruk (1940m) to Nayapul (1070m) then drive back to Pokhara (822m)
Pokhara - On the final day of the Mohare Danda Khopra Trek Itinerary, you’ll leave Ghandruk and follow the edge of Modi Khola towards Nayapul. After a short rest in Nayapul, you’ll take a vehicle back to Pokhara via Lumle village, passing through Kimche village.
