Great dive with lots of turtles! - The two shore dives were great. Gabe was very helpful and made sure we were all safe. We saw several turtles, puffer fish, and a few eels. Lots of hard coral in the area.

Shore dive as good as a boat dive - I had my two Shore dives with divemaster Gabriel and he gave me beautiful tours. We saw lots of coral, several turtles, big puffer and even an eagle ray. Daniel showed me beautiful spots and gave me all the time I needed to make pictures. He was very helpfull and have me a very nice day diving. With a dive spot like this you don’t need to do a boat dive.

Great diving and lots of marine life! - Wonderful company to dive with! They were very responsive predive and communicative on the day of. I did two shore dives at Sea turtle cove and we had to dive off lava rocks and it was a bit tricky to get in and out. But there were lots of marine life to be seen, including turtles. The water was a bit murky that day but the diving was still great. Thanks Mark!

An amazing dive center with a staff that treats you like family. - I have been diving for decades and I always see new things but this is the first time I had this experience. I was the only one who signed up for the dive and the company still took me out to dive. They take customer service to a new level. I was greeted like I was family when I walked in the door. I was introduced to my dive master, Matt Leach who had both my tanks ready and was loading thee van to head to the beach. Matt explained the area and the dive with clear precision. He is a fantastic dive master and took great care of me for two dives. He asked me what I was hoping to see before we went in and told me that he might just know where to look. After we were done the staff asked me how my dive went with actual interest. I completely recommend this dive center to anyone who wants to dive, snorkel or even learn to swim. They do it all here and they even have a dive shop to get you what you need or what you forgot to bring!

Great and friendly adventure ! - I had a great experience with Avi (dive master), both for the refresh course (I hadn't been diving for the last 5 years) and for the diving sessions. He took the time to explain (or re-explain) the basics, and was very patient (especially since my english isn't so good). I really felt in good hands. Not to mention Macy's warm welcome, making you feel in family :-) We saw a lot of interesting animals underwater 🤿🐟🐠 Thanks again, Hilo Ocean Adventures ! Fully recommended.

Great dive, great DM & Capt! - We went out on a great 2-tank dive early February. Clear skies, only small swells, and our DM Phillip and Capt. Kimo made everything easy, relaxed, and accommodating. We really had a great day, and look forward to coming into the shop to explore further possible adventures!

Great diving! - These guys are fantastic! Phil is a wonderful dive master and guide. The boat captain (also a certified PADI instructor) made us feel at home and comfortable for the entire 2 tank outing. Saw acres of plate coral and lots of wild life. Highly recommended.

Treacherous shore dive entry point - The dive shop is an easy 20 minute walk from the cruise ship terminal. Online reservations were easy and we were able to choose a dive time that matched well with our ship’s arrival. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy this diving experience. The entry & exit of the shore dive was more challenging and dangerous than expected. The shore was rocky and it was difficult to bring our gear to the water and get our fins in the water once we were in. We had to climb down and walk over very uneven terrain; we had a companion fall into a small crevice with his full gear on and had to be helped to get up. We wish we had been told to wear a long wetsuit and even gloves as the rocks were sharp and many of us were cut and bleeding as we were going in and getting out of the water. We basically had to sit on the rocks and slowly ease our way into the surf. Putting on our fins was a challenge as we were fighting the surge and trying not to get rocked against the many rocks all around us; climbing out of the water had to be done on our knees which was difficult because of the surge. The dive itself was lovely once you were able to make it out of the rocky terrain but the experience was marred by our entry point. We chose to abort our second dive as we did not feel safe and we were worried about getting injured. There was no accreditation card check when we came to the dive shop nor was our medical form requested so, although our dive guide was good, we would be hesitant to recommend this dive shop and certainly would not recommend the shore dive unless you are experienced, had a full wet suit and gloves, and able to carry your gear over treacherous terrain and swim through a rocky sea bed. As master divers, we are experienced and always up for a challenge but this dive was too much for us.

Great shop, challenging shore dive entry/exit, not much to see - Our dive master (Leach) was friendly, helpful and attentive during both of our dives. We did the 2-tank shore dive at Turtle Cove. The dives were just okay: visibility was good (75-100 ft), but there wasn't a lot to see (at least not on our day). The coral is covered in an ash-like particle and appears to still be damaged; not sure if that's from the '92 hurricane, but there was not a lot of beauty to see. We did see a few eels which were fun, but not one turtle. You will want to be conscious of your comfort level with an entry/exit that is off lava rocks. This was not a walk-in dive ---- we sat on the lava, put on our fins and then 'leaned' into the water. On exit: it was largely driven by tide/wave timing. For me, I have a knee issue and had a very difficult time timing the wave with my gear on. I wouldn't have been able to get out were it not for Leach standing there to allow me to use him to balance my position. For me, this was a VERY difficult egress. The shop was very organized. Leach was excellent. Should we return to Hilo, I think I would try to do a boat dive instead of the shore dive; unfortunately for us we were only in the area for the day, we arrived via cruise ship and were unable to make it on time for the boat dives.

Not worth it - Captain and DM were nice but...Boat was very uncomfortable (nowhere to sit and hold on or to get out of rain/sun) and not suited for commercial diving, tanks on floor and crowded with only a group of 5 divers. All our gear was just piled on top of each other after each dive. There was also no defog, rinse buckets or hose on the boat. They did offer snacks and drinks but were not cold. The captain Kimo seemed knowledgeable however the DM seemed very inexperienced and did not point out anything to us. Weather was cold and rainy which was not preventable, although the second dive was especially a bad site to have picked for that day. Most of the time we were in 18ft with significant surge and poor visibility, couldn’t see or look at anything. I was surprised the DM didn’t call the dive. Since there are only 2 dive shops in Hilo and I haven’t been to the other I can’t compare it, but definitely wasn’t worth it for my group. If you do feel the need to try diving in Hilo, don’t go in the winter.
