Very educational! - Really cool educational trip! Our guide; Carlos, was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job explaining the farming process. It was also pretty neat to be able to taste both the seaweed they feed the abalone and the abalone as well. Worth the $25 admission.

Delicious food truck at the abalone farm in Kona. - This is an amazing abalone farm near the ocean lab just outside Kona town. It is a terrific educational tour, and it winds up with a delicious lunch at the food truck. Try all the flavors...just very tasty and unique.

Marine Snail Fun - The abalone farm tour was very cool. My husband and I went while on our honey moon and found it was very informational. Abalone are such an interesting species. We were able to view multiple different stages of life of the abalone including their best size to eat! We also got to see their main food source and how it is grown, dulse! This is actually very beneficial for the abalone and makes their flavor great. We tried some of it too, straight out of the grow tanks! The abalone definitely are an acquired taste. We tasted their canned and grilled abalone straight from the shell! If you’re anything like me, we keep shells around here and were able to keep these too. Another addition to what we got to try was their new sea grapes, with a little bit of ponzu, it was perfect. On top of this all, we got to learn about their sustainability and OTEC. All of these research companies working together to make Kona in general a very sustainable island. With all of this sustainability, comes recycled water to which we also got to see and touch multiple random critters that come through the water system. Sea cucumbers, urchins and even a brittle starfish which all go back into the ocean after a little of exploring and love from other tourists. We definitely recommend checking out the abalone farm and their amazing food truck!

Fascinating tour! - Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about abalone. It was fascinating to see how the abalone grow and are harvested. They also harvest their own seaweed. We were offered samples of both. This was one of the most interesting tours we’ve taken.
