Highlights

Your Kohala Zip & Dip tour begins with an early morning pickup at your Kona or Waikoloa hotel for the drive up the glorious Kona coastline. Pass through the charming plantation towns of Hawi and Kapaau, in the Halawa Lands of King Kamehameha, and keep an eye out for large marine life offshore, including spinner dolphins and humpback whales (in the winter). After a safety briefing from your guide, gear up and climb aboard your 6x6 Pinzgauer open air off-roading military vehicle and enjoy the Kohala views on the way to the top of the course.

From the moment you begin your aerial adventure at the Kohala zipline park in Kapaau, you will be enthralled by the unspoiled beauty of Kohala, the northernmost region of the Big Island. Perched among lofty trees, this exciting canopy park features soaring tree platforms, five elevated suspension bridges and nine thrilling ziplines. Exclusive features, such as the twin WhisperLines€™, ensure you’ll hear the sounds of the forest, and not the sound of metal on metals from the ziplines. Safety is the top priority and courses are inspected twice daily, and you have the ability to choose the speed and orientation of your zipline. A total course length of 4,580 feet (1,395 meters) and height of 140 feet (42 meters) ensure that this adrenaline-rushing experience will be the highlight of your Hawaii vacation.

After your aerial trekking, your naturalist guide will continue your adventure to explore a private mountain stream with waterfalls, ancient Hawaiian agricultural sites, and a private waterfall swim awaits. Your destination is the Kohala Ditch Trail, built in the early 1900s to irrigate the surrounding former sugar plantation. Hike approximately 1.0 mile (1.6 km), passing blasted-out tunnels, ditches and an old aqueduct while your guide shares the history of the plantation and the construction of its impressive irrigation system. Throughout the moderately challenging hike, see multiple Kohala waterfalls that dot the lush and diverse landscape. Stop at the last fall for a chance to jump into the refreshing pool and cool off under the cascade. Take a break and enjoy a picnic lunch at a breathtaking private picnic area overlooking lush green valleys and 1,000 ft. sea cliffs plunging into the ocean. This is the adventure you’ll take home and talk about for years to come. At the end of the hike, relax on the ride back to your hotel, where your 9-hour tour concludes at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Incredible!!!! - I don’t even know where to start. This experience was incredible!!! It was our first time ever zip lining and to say we were nervous would be an understatement!! However our guide Dane and his assistant Sean were fabulous. They were encouraging, funny, kind, and patient. By the end of the zips we were sad to be done. Here’s the deal though this wasn’t just zip lining this was an all day adventure. You’re 100 - 200 feet above the ground pretty much the entire zips, there’s bridges, and repelling. That’s not all. Dane is local, and so incredibly knowledgeable about the island, its history, culture, agriculture, wildlife. He shared every bit of his knowledge and was so engaging. Once the zip line part of the adventure was over we were taken to the most breathtaking area and served a great deli lunch, got some time to rest, and take in the views. Last but certainly not least a small hike down to 3 stunning waterfalls, one of which we were invited to swim in. Bucket list for me! Before the hike down Dane led us in a traditional Hawaiian what I’d call a prayer asking permission to enter the falls. It was beautiful and gave me chills. I cannot recommend this more. If you’re even the slightest bit nervous or tremendously nervous like I was still do it. Never once did I feel unsafe. They take every single safety precautions and are very serious about it. Have fun and Aloha!

Adventure and exploration in Kohala - Our family had an awesome time on the zip and dip. We had such an easy booking and pickup experience - the whole day was planned and ran smoothly. Our guide, Decker, was great fun and knowledgeable about the area and its history. He was also great at showing us details along the trails and journey, like plants and animals. The zips are beautiful - what an experience to be floating in a lush canopy in Hawaii. The bridges are a little nerve-racking, but totally worth it! Kodi was also an amazing host with positive energy and a welcoming spirit. We loved the hospitality - everything was at our fingertips. Lunch and snacks were great. The waterfall was a perfect ending to the tour.

So much fun! - Our guides Nick and Decker were awesome. Decker picked us up from near our hotel and stayed with us throughout the whole tour. The zip lining was fun but getting to hear the history, some plant facts and mythology of the Big Island was such a great bonus. I loved that we got to swim under the waterfall after zipping through the trees! 10/10 recommend.

Superb day in nature with great guides - Dane, our driver/guide picked the newlyweds and me up timely in Kailua-Kona, starting his informative and entertaining patter as we headed north. One stop to collect a family of six, and we continued the comfortable ride to Kohala. At the upland office we were expertly fitted out with helmets and harnesses, gloves and had a rest stop break. Off into the hills, the rough dirt road had ruts and mud, but this all enhanced the experience. As we alighted to start our arboreal travels, we met Jacob who would "catch" us as we zipped longer and longer runs between the trees. Several rope bridges (which triggered my fear of heights) proved that they can be mastered, and also gave the teenagers a chance to test their parents. With a short rappelling at the terminus, we left our safety gear and boarded the vehicle. Back to the road, we wove through small towns until a turn makai (towards the ocean) for a picnic lunch with a splendid view of the northern cliffs lining the coast. A bit further along the coast, we turned into the private preserve of Hawaiian royalty to bounce our way to the path taking us to the overlook and, subsequently, the base of the upper (of two) waterfalls. The younger folks friskily played in and walked under the falls. Boarding the vehicle again, Dane returned to the upland office where we viewed the pictures Zane and Jacob had captured, before we headed back to our respective rendezvous points. A full exciting adventure with a most informative guide, I'd recommend this outfit without hesitation. Great people, highly professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

Great ziplines. - Curtis was amazing. He took very good care of us since we never ziplined before. The experience was awesome and we used our gopro for lots of viedos. We would highly recommend this tour to everyone who comes to the big island. The waterfalls were great and to be able to swim under them was breathe taking. Great job to our guides Curtis and Ryan.

Interesting experience! - We did the zip and dip. That day we did the waterfalls first. Nice waterfalls. Easy swimming and there were other groups coming in as we were heading out. This was the second time I ever zipped. Competent staff. Interesting zips. The first bridge is seriously scary. If you don’t get the hang of it the first couple of zips they basically give up on you and you don’t learn how to improve much. Nice area to zip in. Big trees with stream. Lunch location was awesome…really recommend if you have experience zipping. If you are a beginner, I might try somewhere else…. But it’s a good time!
