Feel the warmth of steam vents and stroll through an old lava tube embedded in the chilly haze of the Hawaiian rainforest. Wrap up the day by delighting your senses in Hilo town, featuring the stunning Rainbow Falls, Liliuokalani Gardens, and delectable locally brewed chocolates and coffee, all part of this intimate group excursion.
- Operates in all weather conditions (be prepared for sun, wind and rain).
- Covered walking shoes are required and a jacket is highly recommended.
- Participants must be able to walk a minimum of 1.5 miles on uneven terrain.
- We do not guarantee you will see molten lava on this tour.
- HOTEL pick-up is offered for select HILO HOTELS ONLY. If you are staying outside of Hilo, please plan to meet at the Hilo Mo’oheau Bus Terminal (please confirm at time of booking).
- CRUISE SHIP passengers, we pick-up directly at HILO HARBOR and will adjust the tour time as needed to accommodate your ships time in port.
- For a one DAY TRIP to the Big Island, please make your travel arrangements to and from the HILO AIRPORT. Schedule your flight arrival a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the tour start time AND provide your flight details at time of booking.
- Children ages 8 years and up may participate in tour. All participants must have a paid seat. We do not allow any “lap” children.
- Kilauea volcano is an active volcano, you may be exposed to volcanic gas on this tour.
- This tour cannot accommodate guests with wheelchairs, scooters or oxygen tanks.

Meet your tour guide at the Hilo Mo'oheau Bus Terminal (329 Kamehameha Avenue, Hilo, HI 96720). There is free parking adjacent to the bus terminal. Look for our van with the "Mauka Makai Adventures" logo on it in the parking lot. Please be waiting for your driver we may be picking up other guests.

Overall Volcano Experience - Very nice trip. Pace was good, vehicle was top notch and Jill was an exceptional guide/driver. Highly recommend this excursion.

Great Hilo visit - Our guide’s information on the volcanos and island was interesting, fun and fully engaging. We had Jill for our guide in a nice air conditioned van of 12. She did an outstanding job!

An excellent tour! - Jill was a wonderful guide. It was great hearing the experiences of someone who grew up on the island. The sights were wonderful, the timing/pace of the trip was excellent, and the van was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this trip.

Great day on the Big Island - Jill picked us up at the airport as we flew from Oahu for this excursion. We met up with the rest of the group in town and were on our way. She grew up on the island and was very knowledgeable. Her stories were interesting and she answered all our questions. You could tell she has lots of pride in her home. I learned a lot about the Big Island that I never knew. Highly recommend!

Great adventure and great experience. - Our guide, Josh , I believe, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was not in a hurry, very helpful, courteous, professional. I would DEFINITELY recommend this tour and tour company!

Best 5 hours spent - Jill picked us up at the airport and we met up with the rest of the group in town. She is from the island and provided lots of insight and some personal stories. We flew over from Oahu just for this excursion and were happy with what we were able to see. I definitely recommend this tour.

Breathtaking experience - This tour is definitely one of the highlights on our trip. Jill, our tour guide was amazing. Though it was an early start she explained why the tour operates this way and it does make for a better experience. Jill is also a great storyteller, sharing her personal experiences and some traditional stories. Kilauea is a magnificent sight and this tour allows you several stops to take in all its glory and the lava tunnel is a once in a lifetime experience. If you only do one excursion - make it this one!
