- Laguardia - We will visit the Ysios cellar designed by Santiago Calatrava. The structure boasts many architectural features, for example, the roof aims to simulate te Sierra Cantabria (the mountain range that importantly helps to create the Rioja micro climate). In case Ysios is not open to the public that we will take you to Javier San Pedro winery (in front of Ysios winery)
You will have a tutored tasting where you will taste two of their remarkable wines with an aperitif (normally Iberian ham).
- Laguardia - You will enjoy a simple tapas lunch with wine in Laguardia

Laguardia - We will head to Laguardia for a walk around the beautiful walled, medieval city of LaGuardia, with its underground cellars and wineries. Possibly one of the most beautiful villages in La Rioja

Visit Laguardia and take the best pictures form our secret spots and enjoy local tapas for lunch.
In case the Ysios winery was closed for visits (sometimes it happens as it´s a very special winery) we will upgrade you for a wine tasting in Carlos San Pedro winery with the best views over the Ysios winery and the Sierra Cantabria mountains. You will taste 4 wines paired with 3 local appetisers. And of course you will be able to take as many pictures as you want of the Ysios building!

The meeting point is in front of the Guggenheim museum where the big red stop for the Bilbao city view Hop-on Hop-off bus is located (by the tourist information point). You will see it easy as it is very close to the Puppy flower sculpture designed by Jeff Koons.

Rioja wine tour - This tour was excellent. Marina provided heaps of interesting information. She was always cheerful and adjusted to our preferences.

Fun day out for Rioja wine and architecture - Great day visiting 2 top vineyards, Ysios (boutique) and Marques de Riscal (large production). Marina was our wonderful guide for the day. She picked us up at the hotel and educated us on Bilbao and the Rioja on the morning drive. We had several hours at each stop and visited the medieval city of Laguardia for a pintxos lunch and short walk.
We ended up on a private tour based on our schedule and really enjoyed our one on one conversations with Marina about this area of Spain and the wine industry. She was very engaging and knowledgeable.
I was particularly interested in the 2 architects, Gehry and Calatrava. The buildings did not disappoint, especially Ysios. And the wine was good, too! I highly recommend this tour when in Bilbao. You will not be disappointed.

Must Do Wine Tour - This is 100% a must do if you are in Bilbao. This was our first wine tour, and we couldn't have asked for a better first experience. For our tour, we first went to Marques de Riscal, where an employee took us on a tour of the campus and showed us the wine making process. We then got to taste three different types of their wines. Next, we went to Ysios with a similar agenda, trying two of their wines. Marques de Riscal and Ysios both have amazing buildings! Finally, we ended with lunch and tour of the beautiful city of Laguardia. Our tour guide, Marina, brought great energy, was very insightful, and was just a pleasure to spend the day with!

Great tour – highly recommended for architecture and wine fans - The Rioja wine and architecture tour was fantastic!
We were a group of seven international people in a comfortable van.
Our guide Marina was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Rioja wines.
We visited the Marqués de Riscal and Luis Cañas wineries where we had guided tours including wine tastings and afterwards we had lunch with Pintxos.
Unfortunately, Ysios was closed, but we still had a photo stop there.
The tour was great and we can highly recommend it!

Highly recommended tour - The Rioja Wine and Architecture tour was fantastic! We were a group of seven international people in a comfortable van.
Our tour guide, Marina, was very friendly and highly knowledgeable about Rioja wines.
We visited the wineries Marqués de Riscal and Luis Cañas, where we enjoyed guided tours, tastings, and even a delightful lunch.
Ysios was unfortunately closed but we had a photo stop there as well
Every aspect of the tour was thoroughly enjoyable, and we can highly recommend it!

A day of beauty in Rioja - Marina was a most excellent guide who made the drive fly by with her efficient manner, her extensive knowledge of the region and her cheerful disposition. The vineyards were beautiful and the tours were good. We enjoyed the wine but the beauty of Rioja as shown to us by Marina was the real star.

A TOUR WHICH SHOULD NOT BE MISSED - This was truly an amazing experience. Irene was beyond knowledgeable and attentive. We had such a wonderful time and learned so much on this tour.

Best Wine Tour in Rioja, hands down! - If you get a chance to visit the Basque Country or La Rioja specifically I highly encourage you to take this wine and architecture tour with Irene. My wife and I took this tour in October and had the absolute best experience. The wines were spectacular and the unique buildings (Frank Gehry and Santiago Calattava designed) were incredible. And to top it all off, Irene our tour guide was so knowledgeable (she’s also a sommelier). Stop what you’re doing and take this tour NOW!
