Getxo, located within the larger area of Bilbao, is a dynamic township that is known for its captivating waterfront. This municipality gives us a comprehensive insight into the culture and history of Euskal Herria - the core of the Basque community. Our journey commences with the Bizkaia Bridge, colloquially referred to as the Hanging Bridge. This towering structure is not only one of the most significant edifices in Euskal Herria, but also the easiest, most effective way to traverse the estuary to the neighboring municipalities of Santurtzi or Portugalete. Similar to the Eiffel Tower, this bridge has been acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been operational since 1890. The Old Port concludes the tour. This antiquated fishing district is a visually appealing spot where locals congregate to enjoy friendly interactions and local cuisine during the summer months.
